Just curious if anybody here has used a Thunderfunk head with an Ampeg SVT cab. Got one local I'm going to look at today that's priced right, and wanted to know if anybody here has played this combination. I heard that sealed cabs work best with tube amps, but I don't see what this combination wouldn't work.

Haven't played that exact combo, but I think it should be fine. (If not great!) Thunderfunk heads are natural and warm and from memory, so is your typical Ampeg SVT cab. I currently run my Thunderfunk through Aguilar/Acme cabs and love it, but used to use an Ampeg SVT-HE410 cab for a long time (with an SWR head) and imagine it would match up pretty nicely. Enjoy!

    Cheers,

I'm cranky in my old age.
Are you talking the 8x10 Cab?

I've used the precedessor of the Thunderfunk (AMP BH-420) with an SVT 810 and it sounded great to me. If the cabinet didn't weigh as much as a refrigerator and I still had my van, I'd probably still be using it.

Picked the cabinet up yesterday. I noticed an interesting thing about it.Standing a few feet away,it didn't sound any different than what I played before. Move 10 feet in front, however, and I heard the cleanest tone I've ever heard. Not muddy at all,and just bright enough.Who needs tweeters anyway? Going to gig with it next weekend on a big stage,so I'll definitely give it a good workout.

Just got back from a 2 nighter in Helen,Georgia with the TF/Ampeg rig,and it did even better than I expected. When the entire band compliments the bass tone, something is very right! Now,I'm after the same tone in a smaller package where the 810 isn't needed. The Ampeg 410 and 610 HLF look very interesting. The LDS 610 looks interesting too. Any recomendations?

Check out the Bergantino NV 610 or the NV 215. Same tone as the Ampeg 810 more or less .Smaller cab right around 100 pounds (give or take 10 pounds I believe) so quite a bit lighter.

If only they weren't $1300 when you can get used 810e's all day long for $300-400.

True they are a bit expensive, But you can sometimes find them on here in the classifieds for 600-800 if you are patient.
