The ultra low button is an evil tone killer. Avoid it and the ultra hi, just use the knobs (a little goes a long way) .

Those switches have their place.... it just isn't in loud rock music....... they *can* sound good used with not-so-loud music and certain wants/desires/conditions.

Have checked to see what you're pulling out of the wall and what's available from the wall? Most of my gear has a Furman voltage regulator in front of it. Not to be confused with a power conditioner, this will help keep your voltage up where it belongs. But as others have said, if you're wasting power asking your cab to produce something it can't do, you could probably do as much by reducing the sub frequencies. On the production side we always run a high pass filter around the highest usable low point of the subs we are using to make the best use of the power available.

I agree, I was being sarcastic. Lots seem to reach for the ultra low first then try and eq. The ultra low seems to render the eq almost useless though. Took me a wile to stay away from it as well. Very happy with my tone though. They will have to pry my svt 2 pre from my cold dying hands

Yeah. Really, turn the ultra-lo off. It's a good tone-scooper and can give you a nice tight solo tone, but in the mix, you'll easily get lost and become muddy.

A lot of people have commented that often times what sounds good when you're playing alone doesn't necessarily work in the mix, and vice versa. Also, one of the SVT's greatest charms is its huge mid presence, to scoop it out with the ultra-lo switch seems counter-productive.

Have you tried an Eden? (I remember they provide a pretty good scooped tone with some harmonics too)

as others have said, the bass boost switch is NOT your friend on an SVT. if you go out into the crowd and listen to yourself, with the room's boundary reflections, your tone will have a TON of low end without using it. IMO, all it does is cut mids and use up your available power. it might sound good to you on stage but i think that all the audience will hear is undefined and distorted mud.

May I suggest trying to find a SVT 6 Pro? VERY Tube sounding front end and no sage on the power amp. Four tubes in the pre and Two 12au7's in the driver stage...very cool amp.
