SVT VR Preamp Upgrade

Sometimes it's the defects that make it..... components can be too perfect. The carbon comps behave a little differently, and so do paper vs film caps.

To some degree, it's like the type of joint in the guitar neck, or the wood.... a few can tell, most can't. But if you can, you want it.

If you want your life to be in danger, clean the contacts of a Hammond B3 when it is in for service.... They sound kinda sterile and crummy until 30 years of bars ciggy smoke and general pollution have gotten in there, so odds are the owner will be looking to flay you and dry your hide on the back fence. Just another case of the defects making all the difference.

I am almost tempted to :)

I have a VR, I wonder what a stock channel 1, JGR pre channel 2, with a footswitch change would sound like.............. Hit me up!

:) I always thought they should just leave out channel two on the SVT - it would be cool to make it more useful - ya never really hear of folks using it - but there is not a lot to work with there. The CL is a lot more streamlined and actually lends itself better to tweaking in some regards. There's a lot of goodness in the stock VR preamp - there are a few tweaks I'd probably make though - it's a fairly complex beast!

Well I'm game, let me know, I use a micro head for most of my gigs these days.
