First off, both amps have their strengths and weaknesses. For mostly fingerstyle rock (I don't ever use a pick), I would prefer a SVT, but if I am doing anything else I would use a V6. I appreciate both tones, and would want both if possible (maybe a 2 channel amp or something).
There is a lack of modern, reasonably priced hi fi sounding tube heads since Trace stopped making em. The Mesa 400+ gets this market somewhat, but I would not really consider it hi fi in the same sense as a TE. One market that doesn't really have any competition yet is the market for dual channel preamps, such as I mentioned above. I would definately consider one of those (if it were in the same price range as the Mesa and CL and Orange head)!
I use a Mesa 400+ and its very versitle, but again it doesn't do the hi fi thing like a TE. I like the 400+ a lot though, being pretty versitle in tonal possibilities. I liked the Eden tube head for the great overdriven tones though, and a nice pre through an Aggie or Demeter power amp would be awesome, but way too expensive.
I have an all tube amp, and while less weight definately helps I would take a 200 lb head if it sounded good enough.hasbeen said:
