SVT4 PRO + 610, add a 15?

Just to clarify my earlier statement, I agree with those who say the 610 should be enough for all but arenas, and it's probably an EQ thing. However, you have a 4 Pro and it'll take two 4 ohm cabs, so hey...

You're doing it wrong

I guess I can get behind this.... but you're now talking about more onstage rig than most touring metal bands playing in 5000+ person arenas......

1+

Gaurantee the EQ on that SVT 4pro is scooped waaaaay out with all the midrange cut out and just the very lowest bass and the very highest treble maxed out. This has two effects:

1) Sounds kinda cool and "brutal" on its own... will get completely lost in a mix no matter how many watts / speakers you have. Believe me I know.... read some of my threads on the topic...

2) sucks up all the amplifier's power just trying to reproduce the lowest 5% of the frequency range... which the 610, while still a great cabinet, does not really extend down to, so the power is getting wasted & you're risking long-term damage to the cones

And the 4pro is probably not being routed correctly and only running one side of the stereo power amps.... check to make sure it's being run in bridge / mono mode.

If the mids are all being scooped out... you can get yourself a dozen 610's and you'll still only hear a slight rumble underneath everything else.

I'm using the included mono-bridge cable. It's possible that maybe it isn't set to mono mode? (I think there's a switch in the back). I will check it out when I get home.

Some things to consider before getting another cab:

1) are you running the SVT4PRO in bridged mode with the correctly wired cable for it?

2) are you using the LOW boost button? - don't - rather eq in the low end with the knobs

3) are you scooping your mids (smiley face eq)? - don't - this is where most of your volume and tone is

4) how high is your compressor set? - you'll start losing a lot of volume after 9 o'clock...

If you still can't get enough volume then you need another cab and you will have to run the cab in stereo mode. I advise another 610 as the other guys have already suggested. If you can't hear yourself after that --- have your hearing checked!

So i checked it out and it appears that I did not have the button pushed in for mono bridge. That could be part of the problem. Also, can someone tell me how to eq my amp (ex. bass 12oclock...etc.) or show a pic? thanks

In addition, make sure the bridge mono cable is wired correctly. Take a look at the owners manual (or the back of the amp).

When I used An SVT 4 pro I will admit I had trouble hearing myself (1 4x10 cab). The problem was that I was not using the full power of the amp (bridge mono). The other was that I did not know how to eq the amp properly.

I agree, send us a pic of your settings.

Using too much eq is often the biggest problem.

Go to ampegs web site. They have PDF files of the owners manuals and there are suggested EQ settings in the OM. It will also show you how to run it in mono/bridged or stereo.

For the record.... I have been using the exact same rig for 7 years or so and have never had a problem with too little volume. Including playing outside, with two guitar players, keys, a loud drummer and a sax. I also wear 25db reducing ear plugs.

Once that rig is set up correctly and you still want more volume you either have serious hearing loss or will soon. Play quiter and focus on making good music, not loud music.
