Sweetwater is super low on stock right now

As many of us do, I like to spend time looking at basses on the various sites. I've noticed that every time I click on a bass on Sweetwater that gets my interest, it says "More on the Way" or " We can get it."

I guess the shutdown must have affected their ability or desire to order new stock. It's pretty sparse over there.

I doubt any business wants to get stuck with all their capital tied up in inventory during such economically uncertain times, unless that inventory consists of items without which people can't survive.

It has more to do with manufacturers not building product.

They have around 330 choices in stock for 4 and 5 string basses, out of about 750 total selections that they offer. I don't see that as very unusual.

Actually, they have amazing amounts of certain basses in stock. For example, I don't think I've seen them totally run out of rickebackers in the last couple months. They got down to one mapleglo I think and now they have bunches.

I've never seen a place able to keep rickenbackers in stock like them. Like they have a pipe directly to the factory or something.

Well I usually check the "in stock" filter when I'm browsing, to see what comes back in stock quickly and what stays out of stock for month and months. I try to avoid equipment that's constantly or chronically unavailable, so it's just force of habit for me to look at what's actually in stock.... That's why I tend to notice lol...

I waste my time on Reverb. Found three great basses because of it!

But I like how Sweetwater calls me all the time. Makes me feel important.

But, seriously, SW is my go-to for accessories I need new, I like 'em.

They called me last Friday 7/3 and said they have some Autumnglo 4003s in (not "S", but the plural 's') and since I cannot afford at this time, I would advise that it may behoove you to call them.

Rep mentioned that they have some in stock that are not on the site.

It's pretty easy to get 15% off of Fender stuff. Maybe not from Sweetwater but from other stores. Does Fender ever offer discounts on their direct sales stuff?

Minimum advertised price. If you call, you may be able to get a deal on a "demo" model.

Local shops, same thing....

Rewards points. Last time I bought a used bass from GC I got a heavy duty boom mic stand with the rewards $$.

It's probably primarily due to manufacturing and shipping slowdowns. The factories where most instruments are made were either shut down or running at lower capacity for a while there. That has a huge impact downstream. Combine that with shipping delays and it severely impacts a retailer's ability to keep the shelves stocked.

Parts/supply chain is broken pretty badly. You're going to see more of this and not just with musical instruments.

Same here, I've been looking at 4003S's and they come in stock for a few days and in a day or two they're out again. I think they said they probably weren't going to have normal stock until sometime next year. I think they have 4003's in stock or at least they have when I've looked.
