Switching to SS strings, never used them before.

Thanks for all the replies. My decision just got ten times harder, but that's ok. Right now I'm leaning toward the blue steels just because of their track record, and I know a few guys that use them.
I want something with a good metallic growl to it, sort of a buzz if you will, similiar to some of Tool's stuff, (not the bass lead parts, but the heavier parts where the bass still seems to stand out even when the guitar and drums are front of the mix)

I play with a pick 60% of the time and with Nickels I just feel I can't get the intensity I'm looking for when I do heavier stuff.

Seriously, what can you expect when you ask a question like that? Everyone is going to have a different opinion and experiences, so you'll be even more confused than when you asked.

Just buy a pack, they are cheap, try them, then get another option, try that and so on until you've tried a few and go with the one you like best. Won't set you back much money and works way better than trying to pick your strings via poll in the forums here.

+1 for Roto 66s. Be forewarned, they will eat your fingers and your wallet (I can only get about a months worth of causal playing time out of them), but they sound so good.

I highly recommend DR Lo-Riders.

I'm a big fan of the Roto sound, but I have had Lo-Riders on my Ric for over 2 years and they still have bite.
