Found this thread linked-to from this thread (with soundclips based on some of the settings suggested here):

I just picked one of these up last week as my first effect pedal for bass, recommended by the store owner as THE fuzz/distortion type effect for bass (because it maintains bottom end, something most fuzzes don't do well). Dug it in the store and picked it up. Got it sounding pretty good at home through my rig. Took it to a jam at a club and... boom and mud, boom and mud. Played with the settings at every opportunity, but couldn't get it to work and disconnected it. Tried it again in the store next to a Pigtronix Fat Drive Distortion and the newest version of the Big Muff Pi -- the "Deluxe Bass" version.
The Pickle seems to have the most personality and "buzz" if that's the right word, but was also more compressed than the others, and on the edge of boominess, even in the store. If I can get things more reliable, portable (i.e., transfer the results, within reason, to different rigs), and tame the bottom end I'd like to keep it. There is something about the sound I really like -- it's just not practical now.
At first blush, the Muff is the thinnest sounding of the three pedals, but I can see the blend and crossover controls being very useful (read that these get lost in a mix onstage, though).
The Fat Drive seems straightforward and reliable (it's a distortion, not a fuzz, a distinction I sort of get), and halfway between the Muff and the Pickle in girthiness, but the top end is a little blasé -- again, just a first impression.
Rambling, sorry. Will try the above adjustments and see what we see! Will probably also go back and try the other pedals once more. Will post what I find.
