SWR Goliath III 4x10 question

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Hey guys, quick question. I'm just starting to get into the whole bass thing. I got a real good deal on a new 1001RB GK, but still need a cab. I found this and was wondering what ya think of this. Ok deal, Great deal, in between?

I was trying to hold out for a GK 4X10 with a horn, but seems like a great price, but again, I'm still new at this. Opinions?

Thanks for taking the time guys.

***UPDATE***

Good news Bad news.

Good news is I went up last night to check it out. The seller was very kind and even mentioned this website for info as I was discussing my newbieness to some of these things (I'm more of a guitar guy).

Bad news is that I plugged in, and the right lower speaker was blown or something. Put any power to it, and it made a crazy flap noise and punched out a lot further than the other 3 speakers. Nothing visual wrong when took it out to take a peak. The upper left was replaced with a cheaper version, and upper right a recone.

He was disappointed as well, stated he hasn't used it in a long time but worked fine when he did. No reason not to believe him, but not sure.

Good news, the cab itself as a whole itself is in really good shape, I'd even go as far as to say Excellent condition.

Bad news, could use some casters and either one new speaker, or honestly all 4, which is what I'm thinking. The horn had some his to it when starting to turn it up, not sure if this is normal or not.

Good news, I got it for $100 :D

So that leaves me with more questions :)

What direction do you guys think I should go with and if I decide to replace all the speakers?

Again, I'm running a GK 1001RB head. Warrick Rock Bass 5 String, no pre-amp. I occasionally run my guitar through it with a pod, but most of all, this is a Bass rig for sure.

The main purpose for this rig will be for Modern Worship. Small gigs to large outdoor venues. Most of all tone matters. I personally like the whole Flea tone type thing, but that's just a personal thing.

So priority is Tone, Quality, Reliability. After that power, punch, weight, etc.

Playing slaps, funk, jazz, type stuff is beyond me at the moment and somthing I'm really not interested in, so don't really need a sound for that.

So, speaker suggestions or any other creative suggestions for this cab. It is 700w @ 8Ω

Thanks guys, either way, really appreciated your help so far. I plan to contribute soon as this has already helped me out tremendously.

How does the navigation work on this site? For some reason I'm confused on thread direction compared to other forums I'm on.

It's hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like the speaker in the upper left is the one that was reconed or replaced. It doesn't look like the others. Still, assuming that the other speakers are OK, it's a great deal.

I own two Goliath III cabs.
$200 is a very good deal.
Buy it.
BTW, I think most people would agree the Goliath III is a better sounding cab than a GK RBH 4x10.

Even if the recone was done improperly (it's probably fine and will be obvious when you plug in) it would still be a great deal so long as it has the PAS drivers.

Thanks a lot for all the quick replies guys. I didn't realize this place got so much traffic, would have been a little more active sooner.

I'm gonna call him here in a few minutes, any perticular questions I should ask? He already e-mailed me back, said I have to bring my own rig up to try it out as his bass and head are at a different location. That won't be a problem for me.

Just got off the phone with him, he lives about an hour away and can't get together till 9:00pm, but I'm gonna go up there anyway for $200

He said that one speaker was reconed, and the other replaced with a different brand. He said something like emination or something like that, mns, it was hard to tell, the connection wasn't the greatest.

He said it was quality speaker, but maybe a step down from original. Had it done at a shop.

He stated that really didn't have any noise to it, he switched to a 2x10 cab.
