SWR Redhead +1 cab question

I have a Redhead combo and picked up a Goliath III Junior (2x10) Ext cab requirements are at least 4 ohm. The owners manual recommends an 8 ohm when it comes to using the Goliath III Junior. Well, I got that.

Problem is, the G3J cab clearly does not have the same volume as the Redhead. I am using a proper 25 foot speaker cable 1/4". Reason for such a long cable is at times, I like to have one cab on the other side of the stage so the other members can hear me and it also makes for a nice full sound.

So what is the problem? Should I have gone with a 4 ohm cab?

Your main amp cab( redhead is internally 4 ohm cab) your junior being 8 ohm the amp will see different signal current going to different loads. Make sure you are using a good speaker cable 14- 16 gauge. Do not use a shielded instrument cable as a speaker cable. One last thing to check is making sure both cabinets are in phase with each other. If either has had any work done the repairman might have miswired speakers back wrong(longshot) . I used to own a Superedhead amp and goliath jr 210 4ohm cab. They are very well built amps/cabs. Hope this helps

pbass62 is correct. The Redhead itself is 4-ohms and in order to get the "same" volume out of an extension cab it should be 4-ohm also. You can run the Redhead with a 4-ohm extension cab that will then change the total ohm rating to 2-ohm for the combination which in turn will as example allow a 400 watt amp running at 4-ohm to run at 650 watt at 2-ohm. The Redhead can be ran at at total of 2-ohm. With an 8-ohm extension cab I think the total ohm rating changes to 5.6-ohm. Therefore you amps total wattage will be decreased. Hope this helps

Hey, thanks folk's. The rigs are pretty much new and have had no work done. The only question is why in the heck does SWR recommend in their owners manual to use an 8 ohm GJ III? See below:

I can't imagine that I have the wrong gauge, it's a PROformance thick speaker cable.

Yea, I called Fender and asked. They couldn't really tell me why either, except that the 4 ohm load would be the first to draw the power then the 8 ohm load which would of course produce less volume. They recommended I use a 4 ohm cab...bone heads!

I'm thinking about getting a Son of Bertha in place of the GJ3 since I like the low end the 15" gives. It's a good way to round out the sound. Even if I split the cabs on stage, it will still give me the this sound.

Looks like they screwed up in their recommendations since SWR is an internal 4 ohm, but.......

I own a SWR Super Redhead. I used to play it through an Aggie GS210 8 ohm 2x10 and it was as loud as the SWR maybe cuz I never pushed the SWR for fear of frying the tweeter.

The SWR is now gathering dust - I have a GK 700 and an LMII
