SWR Spellbinder™ Blue

$1000!!!!

Too expensive, unless the preamp is out of this world great.

This caught my eye and then I saw the price at Musician's Friend. Almost fell off the couch. I have a Workingman 10 that I really like and thought this might be a replacement. For $200 less I can get a Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0 with an attached 10". It will also handle an extension cab and give out almost twice the wattage.

I wonder what SWR was thinking:hmm:

Quoted from SWR Press:

"The Spellbinder Blue is the perfect amp for studio work and small to medium sized stages, and early prototypes so impressed our old friends Stanley Clarke and Tom Lieber – partners in the Spellbinder brand of “boutique” bass products – that they asked if it could be included in their line! We were more than happy to oblige them and are proud to announce the partnership of SWR and Spellbinder in offering this unique and visionary product. This collaboration is, without a doubt, a match made in bass heaven!"

Played one of these amps today - I'm returning my Markbass Mini CMD 121P and buying the Spellbinder Blue Combo.

The tone is nice and creamy but very clear and balanced also. The compressor and "Aural Enhancer" are nice touches. I use the Diamond Bass Compressor and a BBE Sonic Stomp on my pedalboard, but these are fully capable alternatives for gigs when I don't want to carry around the board (which incidentally weighs more than the amp does).

Lots of great features, powerful EQ, lightweight, and sounds BIG.
