Double Bass SWR Workingman's 10 for URB?

Has anyone ever used the SWR Workinngman's 10 combo amp for URB amplification? If so, what did you think of it. Of course the preamp/amp section is nowhere near as versatile as say the Gallien Krueger MicroBass series or an Acoustic Image, but how did it fair?

A friend of mine used to and it sounded pretty good. He has a huge sound, so I don't think he was relying on his amp all that much, but it certainly worked for him around town.

No doubt there are better ones, but they're cheap, light and plentiful and if it meets your needs, go for it.

I have used a Workingman's 12 with my URB for years (with the Realist pickup). The 10 will just be a little less powerful with a little less bottom. I use it with either an ART Tube MP preamp or my Sadowsky pre, and with a little compression as well. Works fine for me, and with the right EQing it can be very big and warm. The same is prolly true of the WM10.

I liked my (pre-fender) WM12 as a low priced option for DB. I needed a nice pre-amp through the effects loop for the best sound, though, and it was very heavy. Seeing how the new mb112 is only $300 new, I think much better options exist even in the budget range.

Certainly. And, as another poster said, I use an extension cab with the WM12 in most cases (a WM 1x10T extension actually) and it REALLY adds some beef to the sound. Very usable for most gigs, indoor and outdoor.

The 10 is quite a bit less powerful and weaker on the bottom than the 12. Really only good for quieter gigs.

Having owned both I'd stay away from the 10. I used it quite a bit but it was like a whole new world when I had a little more headroom.

The 12 is cool if not a little boomy. Stuff a rag in the rear port to defeat some of that.

Honestly you can prolly find a used GK or Polytone for about the same price and I think you'd be happier.
