I got myself a used SWR WorkingPro 115. I got it for cheap because 'something was wrong with the inputs'. Touching the input jack of the speaker wire made some weird crackling sounds, also heard when you played your bass.
The speaker was ok. At home I checked the circuit on the backpanel and I noticed the capacitor in the tweeter circuit was poorly soldered. After resoldering the crackling had gone. Now I noticed that the terminal on which the wire was connected to the speaker had come loose from the Eminence speaker (poor quality rivet). I drilled out the remains of the rivet and bolted the terminal to the speaker. Next surprise: this speaker is marked as an 8 Ohm speaker, but it reads only 3.6 Ohms on my meter, while other 8 Ohm speakers read between 6 and 6.3 Ohms on this meter. Now imho 3.6 Ohm makes this a 5 to 6 Ohms loudspeaker.
In the system that I use I will consider this a 4 Ohm speaker, I think that will do. The sound of the cabinet is ok. This cabinet sure got some flaws, I wonder if all WorkingPro's do?
