SX body vs MIM Fender

I was wondering about the overall feel of the SX bodies vs the Fender ones.

Is there any huge difference?

What makes them different?

Just curious about the bodies. Already have a neck that would fit.

I gotta say that I liked the SX bass I had better than any MIM bass I have owned (I've had several), but as far as the body goes, I'd bet the MIM body will be better quality.

I grafted an MIM Fender neck onto an SX body. It's nothing special, just another frankenstein.

SX bodies are often-to-usually made of fewer pieces than fender bodies, which is generally considered better.

SX ash bodies are usually significantly heavier than fender counterparts. Not sure how the alder ones compare.

I think the SX bodies might be a bit bigger than the MIM Fender bodies. My SX Jazz is a tight fit in a gig bag made for a Fender-sized bass.

It really depends on the neck you have. I would go with a Fender if you have a Fender neck and likewise for the SX. If you have a Fender liscensed pickguard the holes will probably not line up with an SX.

In my case MIM fender body. 9 pieces of alder. sx body 3 pieces.

Hmm... My MIM jazz V (sunburst) is 3 pieces. I have a mighty Mite Jazz neck with no holes drilled into it.

lowendgenerator, does it play well? I really don't want to sink a 100 dollar neck if it doesn't really sing. I just really like the feel of the Fender jazz neck. The SX seems to measure more like a P neck. (The J bass that is...) The P aint all that much smaller than my 5 string!

I know the SX Jazz is a slightly different shape, and the dimensions on the P might not be exact. Having played lots of real Precisions, my SX P body feels "right" to me. That may not guarantee it'll fit in a Fender case after you put a ton of work into it. Hopefully someone that knows firsthand will post up.
