SX j bass

hey guys.
now before, i never ever liked jazz basses. but the very vintage looking ones have caught my attention. im not looking to spend even 300 for a bass so i was looking at SX i have one in mind and i have read all about them on here and have read very good things, but i wondering if anyone has had any experiance with this one in particular.

are you good at setting up a bass? Chances are there'll will be some tweaking required here. That's the case w/ mine anyway.

A jazz-type bass is a basic element of any arsenal. There's a reason they're popular basses; it's a good design.

The SX provides an entry into the J-type zone for a decent price.
It's no more than the sum of it's parts, to me, but it's not junk either.

I've had this one for about 5 months now: Link Removed

It's basically the same bass but in Green. I love mine and right now it's my main player. I definitely lucked out and got a good one.

Two things to note, the color is most likely going to be different than in the picture (Mine is more of a lighter green than in the picture) also, the neck tint, being a vintage series, is more of a nuclear orange. :D

Other than that, great bass.

Edit: Also, SX Jazz basses have 70s pickup spacing as opposed to Fender's current 60s spacing.

yeah, i was actually looking at them again, and im likin the lake placid blue better, that or the vintage green. do the names of the colors match up with other basses of that color? or i guess will the LPD version be the same LPD on say, a real fender bass?

edit: i see the blue doesnt come with the covers, so i guess its green or burst. im likin the burst, but not as much as i like the green, but same question as above, just with green

There's probably alot of options.

I use a soft foam that came with a computer. It was used for packing. Works good. I either tuck it under the bridge cover or just put it under the strings in front of the bridge. Bob Babbitt actually used a kitchen sponge for his mute. If you watch the Standing in the shadows of motown film, you will see.

I have that vintage yellow model, I love it!! I was'nt ever a big fan of J basses, but I read so many great reviews here that I decided to give it a try. So glad I did!!! Mine is a bit more yellow than than in the pic, and I had to do a quick set up on it, but I'm more than happy I decided to pull the trigger!

OK, so you've changed your color, I have one like you originally wanted, minus the covers:

I have bought Sx basses with covers, but I took them all off, they get in my way.

So, first off, the quality is the same when looking at SX basses in same line but just different color IME, so whatever you have read about SX SJB62s elsewhere should apply to this one too. The changes come if you are talking a different series like Ash series (I mean the ones with the offset dot inlays), or LTD series, they are actually a little better, IMO. I have a few SX basses (see sig) and while I have modded some, the only change I have made on my vintage white one was to put a black guard on it (I think it looks bette with the higher contrast, tort would work too).

Just buy the the thing and try it, only you can decide if you like the thick neck (one of the things I definitely like) and yes different batches of vintage white have varied over the years, the other colors seem to be more considtent, and the Lake Placid Blue is just AWESOME, IMO (had one, sold it to a friend).

What are you waiting on, order it now, or you will get the new headstock style which you may or may not like (wouldn't matter to me, but some people detest the new headstock, whatever).
