SX Neck Replacement

Hey everyone. I've been wondering this for awhile, and I'm sorry if this thread has been posted but I couldn't find anything really specific to this. I've had an SX Ursa Pro for about a year and the only thing I really haven't liked about it is the neck. I've checked Fender and Mighty Mite necks online but apparently they're 2 1/2" at the heel and the SX is 2 9/16. Is there any solution to this, and has anyone tried replacing one of the necks?

Best options are:

1. Sand down the neck heel to fit the body pocket. Looks like it's 1/8" different so 1/16" on each side.

2. Route out the body pocket to fit the bass neck (If you plan on more replacements, this would seem to be the way to go.)

The first way is a lot easier and really doesn't take much in the way of tools.

If you are talking about enlarging the pocket, I'd check with a tech unless you're good with a router/dremel.

Best of luck,

Bob

I think you've got this backwards - the replacement neck is smaller than the existing neck pocket. No routing necessary.

My experience with SX vs Fender necks:

The SX is wider as you've noted.

The shape of the heel is slightly different. Not a huge deal, but, the Fender pocket is slightly more rounded. My SX neck required some filing to make it seat fully in the Fender pocket.

Putting the Fender style neck in the SX body will likely result in a small gap on either side as well as small gaps where the neck meets the pickguard. Neither will have a noticeably adverse effect.

In any case, you will likely need to shim the neck to obtain the proper angle.
