SX Pickguard question

I have an older (some might say classic ) SX bass. I HATE the white pickguard on it, so I tried buying a black one from rondo and it doesn’t fit. I am not really sure if it’s because it has 21 frets instead of the typical 20 or what.

Anyone have any experience with this?? I thought about maybe painting it, but I have read that it doesn’t work well.

Finding an off-the-shelf replacement guard that fits might be difficult. I would suggest having one custom made. There are plenty of companies who will make you a custom guard from the original guard or an accurate tracing, and you will have wide range of colours and materials to choose from.
