For some reason I can't get pics to post. You can look here if you want.

Thank you sir, for posting a picture. Its the black on black one. Looks better in your pic then in some others I've seen.

You also own some decent basses, so would you also enlighten us on what you think of the Pirate bass?

I think it looks GREAT except for the red symbol at the 12th fret and the skull at the back of the headstock. I would cover those with black (or red!) electrical tape.

If I lived in the USA I would seriously consider buying one.

Dude, the Pirate bass is on the Essex website in Spain. One of these is much closer then you think...

I lent mine to Johnny Depp.

That is funny.

I'd consider one, if they were more...i don't know ...finished or something.
The pics make it look all ...like fake /simulated wood or something.
I dunno...looks plasticy to me.
I know , i know it says real wood, but, suttin bout the finish.

No offense , pirate lovers.

BTW, I love P pickups in a jazz body, but I'd prolly get beat up if I got the Mark hoppus bass.

Why? cuz of the colors? they come in blak and white to, i have had 2 and never got beat up........well not because of the bass:D

I considered buying one. It was a bit of a love/hate relationship. It looked great and at the same time it looked awful.

So I pinged some friends for their opinions, to which I got a fairly uniform "I wouldn't be caught dead...".

I dunno what you're all talking about, I'd soooooo rock one of those. Would it be my main player? No way. But for a beater bass? Hells yes. I play in a punk band, and I'm almost considering getting one now. Cover up the "Pirate" text on the headstock, slap some ebony stain on the FB & some black barrel knobs and you're good to go. The single inlay thing isn't something you see every day, and usually it's on the high-end stuff that does a more detailed single rather than dots or blocks. Now the one with the godawful decal on the body and mis-matched blue headstock? Wouldn't be caught dead with it.

EDIT: Never mind, I saw the one on the Rondo site with the day-glo red binding and pickup. THAT is fugly as all hell. The all black one I'd roll with though

Argh, my imagination ruined by reality, who is a harsh mistress indeed! I mean, I don't like the tuners, and the pirate paraphernalia is stupid, but I was expecting something legendarily, notoriously, indelibly awful. Something which was in such poor taste you would eat a bowlful of salt before looking at it again for even another second.

I actually have one of these! I like it, but, I like bad movies too. It is a pirate bass, it cracks me up, it was cheap. Oddly, I really liked the finish, its a satin/matte black and I love a satin finish. You can really feel the grain of the wood and it has a matching neck. Its more toy than instrument, the tuners are sketchy, the bridge cheap and the pick ups noisy, but I get to say I have a bass where the model is "pirate". :D
