Double Bass Symphony Stools: alternatives to Concert Design?

I've seen several threads talking about light, folding stools, but am having trouble digging up info on extremely solid, adjustable, heavy, "high end" bass stools for symphonies. I am a fan of Concert Design, but am just curious whether there are any other options out there of similar quality.

My orchestra has Roc-n-Soc ones (and I'm not sure that they even make those for bass anymore), and we've had rather mixed results.

Perhaps Concert Design has a monopoly at this point on great bass stools that last, but I'd love some other recommendations.

I always try to make something myself when I can't readily find a design I want and it isn't locally available or affordable.

I use an adjustable shop stool similar to Invalid Link Removed. I took a 3" deep round piece of memory foam and made a black seat cover with a sewing machine similar to a Butt Cradle. Then added cane tips to the feet so it sits firm and stable plus it doesn't make noise when it is moved. I also made the front legs 1" shorter than the back legs so my spine is straighter when sitting.

I already had the stool so it was about $40 of supplies and a bit of thought and labour.

It is very comfy though a bit heavy to carry.

you know what? after years of trial and error, and thousands of dollars spent in stools, I think the best are the lab stools:

they are highly customizable, sturdy, extremely comfortable, you can buy a back rest for them too

I bought one of these Invalid Link Removed from Musician's Friend a few years ago for about $40 and have since made some modifications that have made it very comfortable.

First, the pic shows it adjusted to about 20" so when it is at the proper height the foot pegs are in the perfect spot. The backrest is easily modified to allow vertical adjustment and it is horizontally adjustable allowing nice support exactly where I want it. I added a butt cradle a year ago that was well worth the money.

It is a somewhat DIY version of this:[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
at a lower cost, although less elaborate.

Super comfy and better aesthetics than concert design if you ask me. Not cheap. I don't believe the rest of the replies are nearly on par with concert design or these.

We use those in my orchestra too. Just played on one tonight in fact. I can second the recommendation.. it's a good stool.

I think Joe was still using those old CSO stools while I was there in Civic a few years back... never tried them, but they looked like some sort of orchestral torture devises.
