Synth and fuzz

Hey Justin!

I am a massssssily huge fan of your work and especially your work with NIN... You really opened my eyes to using Aguilar and I am a recent endorsee of them! Currently touring with a db751 th500 db410 and db115.

I am on that ever eternal quest to find the right fuzz and usuable synths. I use a darkglass duality currently for fuzz and I recently ditched my EHX micro bass synth(sliders were inconvenient for touring and always got knocked out of whack).

I wanted your input on getting that smooth bass fuzz that grinds hard but less pick/finger attack (think muse) and what the best synth pedals are.

Also I just recently got to use a malekko jmj diabolik in the studio and darn that was awesome! I am looking forward to what you think!

Hmm...Akai Deep Impact? Or maybe a Chunk Systems Octavius Squeezer? The Iron Oxide guys make something cool that might do that, and maybe a Pigtronix Mothership (though it won't get terribly fuzzy) as a synth. There's probably many others and I'm just not quite savvy with them currently. And thanks for the complement!

Have you tried a Diabolik with a Boss OC-2? That's pretty cool too.

Anyone else want to comment on the current state of bass synth pedals?

OC-2 and Prunes And Custard is what I did to get close to that Muse vibe when I had to play one of their tunes at an event. Deep Impacts are sweet, but good luck getting one for cheap.

I would LOVE to get a deep impact but as stated, the cost is just crazy... I heard a lot about the p&c maybe I'll have to give it a shot

Yeah, I've used the P & C/OC-2 combo for many years...that was in my rig in '99 on the Beck "Midnite Vultures" album and tour. It's great. Experiment with flipping the pedal order back and forth. Very different tones that way, obviously..

I definitely like mine. I've used it to muck up keys and drum machines in the past too. The blend knob is a lovely thing.

Old thread but i thought i'd throw my two cents in. As jmj stated, Iron Ether makes killer pedals. I'm currently using their subterranea and i love it (especially with either the square wave or saw wave settings). Throwing a chorus afterwards definately gets you that detuned synth action afterwards which is cool
