Synth dirt question

Just got my Moog LPF and been fiddling
once I can get my hands back on my oc2 currently locked up at my dramas house it will be .
then of course dirt will be needed to make .

So I'm looking for a list of 4 or 5 dirt pedals that have been used with a moog lpf and an octave that have brought the synth love.

I plan on trying/buying the most promising 4 or 5 and flipping what doesn't work for me I might keep 2 but price should be around 250 each or less second hand. should be reasonably available(no limited to 60 units back in 1993) size is not important.
as for sound. any thing from classic daft punk sounds, a few of the synthy tracks from Moon safari by Air to the synth line from jk deeper underground really do it for me. I know some of these don't require all filt/oct/dirt but their the ball park sort of tones I'm going for with the dirt

oh and has anyone tried a source audio hot hand into a moogerfooger? I'd be interested in trying that if it works or doing a mod if required.

A muff or muff clone, a rat or rat clone, or a gated fuzz are my favs with lpfs/filters. Do you want guitar center/Sam Ash-type gear or are you into buying boutique?

Chunk systems Brown Dog and Zvex Woolly Mammoth (and clones) are all that immediately come to mind. I'd throw the WMD Geiger Counter in there but that thing is a handful. Could have some fun with the Source Audio MWBD too.

I've pretty much done the same experiment that you're thinking of doing and maybe I can save you some time and money. The Big Muff was the only distortion/fuzz pedal that produced a smooth, creamy synth sound with an OC-2 and Moof LPF. Liked the Agro for a different type of sound but a Wolly Mamoth, Chunk Brown Dog, etc. were all too harsh sounding. Interesting that the YouTube video demos sound a lot different than when you have the actual pedal in your signal chain.

Tried an Aguilar Octamizer too and got some cool tones but nothing beats the OC-2 for a true "synth" sound. Both are still on my board. Didn't try a Muff clone. Have never found anything that sounded better/ more synth like than that pedal and believe, I've gone through a lot of them.

I've used my Fuzzrocious Grey Stache, green Russian, black Russian, civil war, DBA fuzz war...the list goes on. My GS was my fav.

Tech 21 Red Ripper is super synthy on it's own, and with octaves and envelope filters. IME, combined with the Soundblox BEF and Modtone Deep Dive, I get really great synth tones.

Zvex Mastotron is a great alternative if you're looking for a Mammoth-type sound but playing an active bass. The Iron Ether Oxida can also do gated (and many other) types of sounds.. I've got one one my way right now (even tho I'm already very happy with the Mastotron).

depends on how aggressive/weird/laser"y"/extreme you want your synth dirt sound- to be. I have used the brown dog for a harsher synthy sound (with the synth drive and gate high up), more of a creamy tone with the fuzz rolled back no gate, the iron ether oxide can do the cutting b:assmaster tone or a heavily gated square/pulse wave sound. I had the orbit for a bit& it can sound outta this world with rind mod added in with the fuzz and squelch with a nice tight gate or ring out... another option is t or the source audio multiwave bass distortion pro can do a much tamer yet uber synthy sound. I also really like octave down with a light overdrive or some mild bitcrushing for a very digital sound. Depending on how much synth work you are trying to do, it might be best to have multiple pedals to achieve multiple synth sounds. I really liked all of the pedals I mentioned above- right now the only 2 I’ve kept on my board are the octavius squeezer (brown dog fuzz circuit) and the oxide. The SAMWBDP had the longest tenure as a dirt on my board and was only traded to try some new things.

Second vote for the ripper. Use it after any fuzz (set the drive at 12:00 and the rip at 15:00) and enjoy your super thick and powerful dub kind of sound. It can also do synth on its own with both drive and rip almost maxed.

The BASS Big Muff Pi is the one to get. Sorry if there was any confusion.

Soundblox Bass Distortion Pro - 6 programmable sounds. I can get most dirt sounds I want from it. Great pedal. I have not tried the Hot Hand with anything other SB BEF though

Another big +1 on the Red Ripper. I use mine along with a few other pedals to make just about any synth sound I want!

Yeah, I beat you to that one sorry! Hoping it'll arrive tomorrow.

What other types of pedals are people using with the ripper to get a synthy sound? I'm new to using effects but have a few songs (Shake Your Body, Dance Like Jagger, etc) where I need a certain sound. Thinking of maybe picking up a octave pedal next?
