Bungle really doesn't sound like SOAD. Check out Faith No More's "King For a Day, Fool For a Lifetime" and it's pretty much the blueprint for everything SOAD did. "The Gentle Art of Making Enemies" in particular seems to be every SOAD song ever written.

Patton and co. were doing it long before System, and System made more money off of it.

i really like their albums, decent songwriting and good vocals and dynamics. something like a king`s x "Dogman" and faith no more`s "KFADFFAL" cross-over.

but they went down my "favourites" list after I`ve seen couple of their live shows - very, very, very, very sloppy, terrible timing problems, apparently Shavo doesn`t have enought chops to pull of even the most simple songs - i`ve seen bassplayers with 12 months of experience playing way better than him. the guitarist was really sloppy too, bu at least he has a lot of charisma and stage presence and is almost able to play his own songs.

Sorry, but after +10 ten years of playing I would expect every bass player to be able to support his band with a solid, steady pulse and a fat tone. on every show i`ve seen he failed to do this. too bad, their songs are first rate pop/metal hybrid.

The Metro is i believe a Berlin cover song. I think Alkaline trio covers it as well.
But back to the topic at hand. SOAD rocks! I dont have anything by them but i've heard their cds. When ever i hear Toxicity on the radio it makes me want to go out and buy it but i'm usually driving to somwhere and i eventually fogetting to pick it up.

Benjamin: I've actually found some of their songs pretty challenging to get right - not that they're really that complicated, just that there's a lot of fast string switching in both hands during certain songs that's difficult to do accurately at tempo. I do enjoy SOAD, they have a very interesting sound that has a lot to do with their drummer, but Shavo isn't an incredibly creative bassist - he does what the chord progression asks of him and nothing more, unless he's doubling the guitar. It works with the songs, though, can't complain about that.

Yeppers. My comments were just based on the "you should give up on FNM because Mr. Bungle is better comments."


(I do like Mr. Bungle more though)


My friend has a Mr. Bungle shirt where someone wrote them a letter and it's on the back to sum it up, "I bought Mr. Bungle's album (self titled) because Mike Patton was in it and I thought it would sound like FNM, Mike Patton wouldn't be anywhere without FNM, blah blah, he should go back to his original band and the lyrics are stupid, blah." It's funny.

They are all Armenian, Shavo is from Lebanon and Daron from Hollywood, but at least Daron says their all Armenian.

Tune down to C, and you'll find that 80% of their stuff is super easy to learn. Lots of chromatics, really, and it won't take long to figure out like 10 or 12 songs.

I've heard that about half of their shows are awesome, and the other half suck. I'd like to see them, though.
