Loved that burnt finish. Just replace the pickguard, put everything functional again and rock on. It could be "a bass with history" (like this) or a pristine anonymous bass...
Great advice Diogenes. Did exactly what you said and it was really easy. A little sanding and some spray shellac for the body kept the burn marks looking bitchin' and I found a replacement pickup. The guitar shop's putting soldering in the pickup now. Before and after pics soon. It came out much better than I expected. Thanks again.
Yes, it's been awhile, but I've finally renovated my Peavey. Didn't come out too bad. Threw some shellac on it and got a new setup. Sounds great. Got a new pickup and found out the other one was fried, too. Still, it sounds great, looks a lot better, and plays like a dream-- on the neck pickup anyway. Before and after pics as promised months ago, if anyone's still there.
