Question about tabbing out the scales -

Say I'm doing A Major and I want to tab it out. I did and it looked like this:

    G|--------------------1--2------
    D|-----------0--2--4------------
    A|--0--2--4---------------------
    E|------------------------------

I wanted to check my work, so I looked it up online and found this tab:

    G|------------------------------
    D|------------------4--6--7-----
    A|--------4--5--7---------------
    E|--5--7------------------------

Are both of these valid? If not why is one more "correct" than the other?

  2. One is in first position and one is in 5th position.

Both are correct, just different fingering.

Yeap, both correct positions. It is very helpful to learn the others too.

The A Major scale is: A-B-C#-D-E-F#-G#

It doesn't matter where on the neck you start or finish.

+1. You could play the entire scale on one string and still play it "correctly".

I would recommend the Bass Grimoire if you are learning scales, it gives you all scales in different positions and modes, and links what scale/mode for different chord structures.
