Taking a bass onboard EasyJet?

Easyjet (and Ryanair) have strict guidelines for in-cabin luggage and a bass is way too big. I know someone who bought a seat for their guitar, it was a con because the airline sold the seat to someone else so they had to put it in the hold anyway! I've flown with my bass on 4 different airlines including Easyjet and it's been fine, I just made sure they put fragile stickers on the case and put it through the outsized luggage check-in. Of course I relaxed the strings and made sure it was thoroughly padded in the flight case with clothing, particularly round the headstock.
