I don't but ill try to scan some of it soon. Its 13 pages including full page color pics. They love her over there.

That would be great if you could translate it or if someone else here speaks Japanese :) it looks really in depth and interesting. I'll try to post some scans soon

For any hardcore Tal fan, this magazine is a must have. This is the second time they've had her on the cover. I have the other issue too, but I couldn't read that one either! Hah.

I'm surprised BP hasn't put her on the cover here yet.

I have to admit I hadn't heard much of Tal until I saw her backing up Jeff Beck at Ronnie Scott's in London.

Wow, can Tal play a mean bass or not? Her touch, feel, tone, timing, improv, etc. were all fabulous. I was impressed at her ability to play across styles, feed off Beck, and, well....she was just great!

Where does her tone come from - I'd say plenty from her. You can hear that when she digs in. Sure she's playing a Jazz type layout, probably favoring the bridge p-up - but so much is in her fingers.

As an aside, I loved how much she was enjoying herself too! It was infectious too; Beck smiled more than I've ever seen.

Tal.....you play a mean bass. You've got a new fan (for what that's worth!)

I was simply stating that her technique is that of the greats, where her tone comes from herself just as much as her gear.

When it comes to content and musicality she is "a great like them". "Transformation" is the proof. She's already there. :bassist:

She is not another Jaco, Victor, or Ox. I like her playing better. And I'm not kidding. But that's just my personal taste in music. And don't get me wrong, I love Jaco, Victor and the Ox.

I can't really explain it what it is about her playing that impresses me so much, but it has something to do with the emotion in her playing.

Anyway, I keep watching videos of her playing, and I really think a lot of her tone has to do with her touch.

You see those things coming off her arms? That is where Tal's tone comes from. Wanting to know what people play is only natural, but make no mistake...you will sound nothing like Tal using her stuff, and she will sound nothing like you using your stuff.

Two separate issues IMO. When I play my ash/maple Sadowsky with singles, my phrasing, time, note choice, groove, etc. doesn't stack up very will with Tal (I love her playing). My tone is pretty darn close;)

Description of her bass:

Sadowsky Vintage 4 with a smaller body than the regular jazz bass. She's been using this for the past 4 years and it has an ash body with maple neck and fingerboard. The neck has a thinner grip than normal. The pickups and preamp are made by Sadowsky, but the bridge is an AllParts bridge with 19mm spacing. Other specs would be an ivory nut and a Sadowsky D-tuner. Also, based on the scratches and dent on the bass, we can tell she's been using this one quite extensively. The controls are volume, balance, passive tone control, and stacked bass/treble. She used only this one for this tour, but she owns 2 more Sadowskys.

+1 From what I understand, it's pretty much a stock bass, with I believe the Sadowsky/Seymour singles (that's what I've seen posted, but second hand, so take it FWIW).

The bridge is not stock, since I believe the stock Sadowsky bridge on the 4 strings is 20mm.

I wonder what's up with the dual Avalon DI's?

Back to the point of Tal being another (insert name here) she is not another (ya, you know). First off, she does not have a twig and berries in the lower, frontal abdominal area....

Seriously, Tal is Tal, no one else. Nor should she be. Her style is all her own and that is that. I cannot imagine comparing the Ox to Wooten or Jaco. I think it is even a stretch to compare Jaco to Wooten, they are both distinct and different, so is Tal.

I try real hard to keep the fact that she is young and real easy on the eyes out of my opinion of her. But as has been said before, she has this infectious attitude and you can see how much fun she is having, and that make a big difference too.
