Talk Box

Well, I've only been a bassist for less than 6 months, so I haven't unlocked all the secrets or know what I should or shouldn't do, but hell I'll ask anyway.

Are Talk boxes compatible with bass guitars? Or will it sound crap? I don't wanna risk buyin the whole set up and ****, it's either that or more towards my new car fund

You could pay me like $50 (plus the plane ride to Australia) and I'll stand on stage and say "wow wah" over and over.

Honestly, unless you're playing Sweet Emotion and your guitarist isn't worth his weight in broken strings, I wouldn't bother with a Talk Box IMHO. Groove first!

Actually I just started using one, it's a load of fun and can be used in some clever ways. A good wah pedal and fuzz work just as well though. Here's a clip of me playing it about a month ago at a show. The sound quality is a bit rough and it's kinda hard to hear, but you can see me biting the tube of it....

The song is Pony by Ginuine

It's the rocktron banshee II. Good song to jam on it is Stanley Clarke's "I Wanna Play for You". It's tough getting the actual words to come out, but once you get it down, tons of fun.

my vid got posted for me :D

i have a lot of fun with it. really tend to use it as a super fuzz-wah. want to trade it in for the rocktron banshee.. ive heard much better sounds come out of it
I really liked your vid actually, i thought that the Free Speech sounded pretty good.

Wouldnt get one though :p For all the time and effort put into buying it, setting it up, getting a mic etc i could just use my dist/wah and get a similar vocal sound.

trouble is, i dont always want the OD in there. i can get a similar OD sound a lot of places, and i want the ability to have it clean. it really is a niche market, and it takes a while to get any good at it (hell.. i dont even have it down yet), but it sure is fun, and it will turn a LOT of heads :D

Well if i remember correctly there meant to work better with more OD on them arent they? Because theres more frequencies filtered out or something. So maybe having it clean isnt such a good idea.

Kind of like how OD/wah is more apparent than clean/wah.

I didn't have much good luck with the Free Speech. It also didn't work well in a signal chain with other effects.

If you just want vocal sounds, you can get a EHX Voice Box. It takes the key youre playing in from the instrument, and then sing into the mic, plugged into the voicebox, and it will change your vocals.
