I built a talkbox a few years back. I was partly inspired by coming across this sign at a clinic nearby (note second from top).

I built the talkbox inside an ammo case from a surplus shop. It's basically just a 1/4" jack, a compression driver, some tubing and a coupler so that the tubing can be joined with more tubing on the outside. I don't have any photos of the fully finished product unfortunately, but you'll get the idea.

I built it for the former keyboard player from my band. We powered it at gigs with a tiny ancient Seabreeze tube amp.
