Tamed rig, more clarity..

Recently I was having issues hearing myself during live performances using a Markbass Little Mark 3, Markbass Traveler 2x10 and the 1x15 (the combination adds to 4ohms). My other band mates also said they couldn't hear me clearly but the low end was too much.

So I decided a few weeks ago to drop my live rig to a TC Electronic BH250 and the Traveler 2x10, which I elevate on a table or stand. I was pretty surprised at how well I can now hear myself and I also need less volume even though it's running at 8ohms now. It's a bizarre situation but it works well for me!

2x10 coupled with a 15 isn't the greatest speaker combination. It's not the worst, but I've learned (through these forums) that a matching speaker cab, ie another 2x10, preferably the same brand and wattage would be a better match. It may be the case that you reached the top of the 15's headroom before the 2x10, resulting in less clarity and more boom. There's more to getting more out of your system than just decreasing resistance. Elevating the 2x10 can definitely do a lot for you too.

Mixing cabs as you did often results in the "it's too loud but I can't hear it" phenomenon. Identical cabs is a much better bet.

I realize it's too late now but maybe what may have worked was reduce the bass and raise the mids in the eq and/or raise the cabs off the floor to closer to your ear and take away some acoustic coupling with the stage. From what I've read around here, both companies make great gear so good call on both your old and newer gear.

It works for a lot of us. When I am not stacking 210s, I use this table: http://m.homedepot.com/p/Husky-X-Workhorse-Workbench-17185155/202021304. It has about the same footprint as the the 210s I've owned so it takes no extra stage space and it folds flat for travel.

Thanks eriky, but already gone down all them avenues, I used to have the bass scooped on my little mark 3 mids boosted (a little more lows than highs) and treble slightly boosted, all cabs elevated, away from walls etc. Like others have mentioned I just don't really get on with the cab config... I'm going back to all 10s

The 1x15 is sold now. I was surprised in the amount of interest it garnered. I'm going to put the money towards a markbass standard 102hf. It should be a nice compliment to the traveler 2x10 when playing larger rooms.

Recently got the 102hf to go with my traveler 102p. What a combination. Sounds better than having a 104hf (which I have previously owned) as it's more tweakable, regarding the tweeters in the pair of them...

On really loud club stages (with plenty of PA spill from the cranked FOH), I've had the best luck elevating a cab (Carvin LS1503) on a PA stand right at ear level. I can run a lot quieter and still hear myself, while bandmates get the bass they need in wedges or IEMs.

The main factor was getting the cab at ear height a few feet behind me.

Did an outdoors festival gig today, 2x10 up where I could hear it over the drums, just enough volume to drive the band, post DI, all good out front. Too easy.
