Tapered strings and tapewound strings on piezo elements.

Right now i'm experimenting with different strings on different basses, wich I found to be very interesting. Unfortunately the headstocks on my basses are so much different, that if i cut a strings for one bass it won't fitt another one very well (o.k. it will fit but with only half a winding on the headstock, or something like that).
So maybe you can help with some advice/experience for my Ibanez EDA 900, wich has piezo elements in the bridge.

I have a set DR black beauties, wich is tapered.
-Will the thinner part of the string induce enough pressure on the piezo's to give a decent sound, and will this sound be fairly equal string to string?

I also have a set of Labella 760N, black Nylon tapewounds. Offcorse the colour is just as fancy, but I read somewhere on this forum that piezo's sometimes close the current loop through the string.
-Is this true for the EDA 900?
-and if so will the Labella's perform this trick well?

Hope you can help me out with this, before I have to screw up yet another set of strings, just to try.

As long as your break angle at the bridge is good you'll be fine - the steeper the better. The thickness across the saddle will affect tone more than the output of the crystal if the angle is okay.

I strung my Ibanez with the Black beauties.
The result however is.. interesting.
The A, D & G strings sound very good.
On the piezo's the E string sound a much part thinner compared to the others.
I could live with this, since the strings sound very even on the magnetic bridge pu. (with my other basses I normaly only use the bridge pu, on this Ibanez I used the piezo's mostly to compesate for the uneven sound between the E/A and the D/G of the bridge pu)
The problem now is that the E string sound dissonant (wich on the piezo's is most noticeble).
I read a threat of a similar problem wich turns out to be a bum string. Hope that changing this E string will fix this problem.

Your E string may be of lower tension than the balance of your set which will affect output from your piezos.

I don't know what would cause the dissonance outside of a twisted string.

Are you dead set on tape or flat wounds? What are your gauges at A D & G?
