Tapes and Piezo Saddles?

I’ve used Rotosound and La Bella with graphtech piezo saddles in Sung Il bridges without issue. What you get will mainly depend on the buffer/preamp you use. Here's my five string with Rotosounds.

I have been using Pyramid tapes with Graph Tech piezo saddles and it's been a blast. Just got to be careful when you're cutting the saddle grooves so that the volume of each individual string is equal for all strings. I previously had a one piece piezo by Open to Source Sensors and individual string volume wasn't an issue.

I have Roto 88 tapes on my piezo only fretless jazz bass . Cheap no no name piezo bridge with DIY buffer circuit . Works and sounds fantastic . Cant see there being a problem . Go for it .

That's the sort of bridge I'm looking for

On a side note an alternative an onboard piezo buffer is a small relatively inexpensive outboard preamp called the Red-Eye that's getting rave reviews in the double bass community. What makes it unique is that instead of having a preset input impedance of say 10 meg ohms (which is pretty common in buffering preamps) it has an impedance matching field-effect transistor they describe as being designed to "track the impedance of passive piezoelectric pickups". My understanding is it tracks and the changes the input impedance based on the output impedance it's seeing from the pickup. Whatever is going on the thing is pure magic. Easily the best $225 I've ever spent to make piezos sound good. It's a good sounding DI with piezos and magnetic p.ups too.

I wish I'd considered tapes when I had a Godin Acousibass fretless. I love them on my 4003FL, but the Godin had a peizo bridge.

I have an Acoustibass - sounds great with LaBella tapes. Was my #1 until the Rob Allen showed up - also with LaBella Tapes. IMHO, you can't go wrong with a piezo.

Tapes are a great idea. I have had a couple of bases with piezo bridges and roundwounds. The sound was fantastic, but the finger noise was unacceptable.

I used daddario nylon tapewounds with my fretless magnetic/piezo bass and I thought the tone and playability was fantastic! Smooth like butter, warm, easy to play. Go for it

Tapes are killer with piezo, imho.

String to string volume balance is not a problem with a Richter multi channel buffer/preamp.

That's the sort of bridge I'm looking for

Had mine for a couple of years . Been unavailable from supplier ever since . I'm sure that they are out there somewhere . Sounds great with DIY buffer . 470nF tone capacitor takes out finger noise but leaves plenty (too much for me ) of treble . Easily sorted with EQ on amp . Battery in bass has been in there for 2 years and still good . Very low drain design .
