TapeWound Club~Anyone?

Had to go back to the flats, the tapes were just too floppy and would choke out if I dug in at all. I'm sure this is just a personal thing to me as I play hard and have always preferred higher tension.

It's such a shame though because they looked so freakin cool and felt great.

Which tapes are you referring to? The d'addarios I just discovered are nearly identical in feel and tension to my DR rounds. They have a round wound core and sound/feel amazing to me... hardly a departure from rounds in feel and FAR better than ANY flat wounds I've tried for that very reason. Tone in off the charts... Im in.

Labella tapes are all round-core and roundwound beneath the nylon.

Labella are the only company making non-black tapes, as far as I know.

just check on the gauges of the Fenders...(as I recall they are some of the thickest )....Fenders .058, .072, .092, .110...my Daddarios 50, .65, .85, .105...some nut adjustment may be required for the Fenders

Yeah, I recently received a bass with a Magma 6 string nickel set installed. After some time, I believed these would be "my strings" and I sought them out. You are right, unfortunately, their distribution isn't available yet. Their customer service was very nice and helpful, but the minimum order requirement quantity/price was probably more geared towards dealer quantities, multiple players pooling resources together, etc. I would have been willing to order several cases to make it worth it but didn't want to invest in several years to come lol. That being said, if they straighten out their distribution on Amazon (for e.g.), I'll be all in.

Using a pick, then? It's here and abouts someone suggested the lightest possible pick has the mojo for tapes? (So I bought a bunch of picks of different gauges and now have a bunch of picks I ain't figured out for beans.)

I haven't been using a pick lately and my touch tends to be on the light side as I love to play reggae....

I'm thinking rogue E string.....

Either that or cats!....:D

Well.....I for two also have a drawer full of useless, to me, plastic that will never be used......

I've settled on two now....The previously mentioned Dunlop sculpted jobs for flats or rounds and, as you suggested, a lighter pick for nylon wound strings....a .73mm Dunlop sculpted job too but somewhat smaller...

For cost saving, you can order the E D'Addario tapewound as a single from Jason/FN or other online dealers. But I imagine La Bella whites are gonna be awesome.

I've acquired some La Bella white tapes in quite some times and I've been waiting for the unravel thing to happen with my D'Addario black tapes so I can replace them with the whites. It's just that my D'Addario black tapes are still in good shape despite have been on my bass for more than 3 years.
