tapping and harmonics solo bass video

Then again, we're bassists, not lead guitarists. We knew we weren't gonna get any girls going into this

thanks for checking that tune out! though i did compose 'epic love' several years ago, i only just recently posted that particular video of the piece on youtube. i have some other videos here if you want to check them out http://uk.youtube.com/user/Zander4724 and am working on some new stuff which hopefully i'll make available soon.
oh, and definitely not in it for the girls... anyone who is has chosen the wrong genre of music! : )

How much of your sound is the Zon? I was wondering, it seem that the tone is so clean and focused. I own a couple of cheap quality basses, so there is no comparison to the sound I get. What I hear in my head is what you gys play. Do you feel I need an instrument of this quality, or is my tone all ready in my fingers?
I know that the question is hard to answer, but I want to be able to justify an expensive purchase! I only play for myself now. But I feel that I am being hampered because I can't get the sound in my head to come out through my amp.

I'm very impressed Zander. Excellent playing, very relaxing. WAtching you and alot of other TBers play has inspired me to change up my own style more, and write differently. Being on this forum has really helped me realize the wide variety of things that really can be accomplished on a bass. What a versatile instrument. Thanks so much for the great inspiration.

to answer your questions, i'm using my zon vb4 with piccolo strings and a warm, spacy reverb effect. because the piccolo strings allow me to tune my bass to higher pitches, the chords are perhaps a bit more clear. with regard to tone, the sound is certainly in your fingers; however, the higher quality the instrument, pickups, etc..., the better your tone and sound will definitely be. personally, if i was able to, i would certainly make the investment...

That was sweet. I think the best part about it was the beauty of the composition; I would have listened to it regardless of whether mad bass chops were involved. Keep it up!
considering your resources, not being in a studio, and not being a solo artist with tons of albums under your belt, i still liked it better than alot of manring tunes, not saying i dont love his playing, just saying i felt like i could relate alot better to the tune, not that you are technically proficient to michael but you're daaarrrnnn good

Ditto to all the praise above - this video (and your others on youtube) are great. Lovely tone and feel, great note choices that make the most of the sound you've found.
Beauty. I just melted inside. Definitely sending this video to all my buddies. I have a question as to how you go about composing something like this. Do you like to outline your chord base or do you do it off instinct or do have the melody in your head and you outline the chords that go with it? What did you do as to learning to compose like you do was it through lots of transcribing of other players and getting a feel for what they were doing or did you just get right into the hop of it?
