Taras Prodaniuk

I saw him perform with Richard Thompson last night and he was just killer - one guy in the audience actually ruined it when he yelled "Less Bass" and Richard advised him to move !

I couldn't identify one of the basses he played with - soft of like a Jaguar or Lakland Decade shape with pickguard that covered almost all of the body - anyone recognize it from this poor photo?Link Removed

Very cool bass and bass player. The older Ampegs with the "mystery" pickup were very thuddy but the last batch had a bridge that did not stick out the back and intonated properly as well as having a magnetic pickup that sounded great. The volume pot was push/pull on/off acting as an onboard standby.

Saw Taras in Pittsburgh with RT last night. Great sound and the pwerfect picture of a player who works within the band and doesn't overplay, although he is capable. He used a Fender Jazz as his main bass, an Ampeg fretrless and, on only one tune, a Lakland USA Glaub. I couldn't make out his rig but it's a 410 cab sitting atop his amp rack case.

His sound cut right through the mix -- a much better sound than that of the bassist from the Aussie Pink Flyd Show, which I saw last week. The APF bass was lost in the keyboard low end although when he played solo, it sounded fine.

Old thread but I thought I would bump it to let anyone interested know that The Richard Thompson Electric Trio will be on David Letterman tomorrow night (Wednesday 3/13).

Been listening to a couple of the recent Electric Trio UK shows and Taras's bass work and tone is really nice. Took me a while to warm to his playing style in the context of Richard's band but over the years he has grown into the band it an excellent way. It is especially fun to watch him and Michael Jerome onstage they look like they are having such a great time playing together, lots of smiles and laughing.

There is a link on the homepage of Richard's site where you can download some recent live Electric Trio recordings.
