That damn thing was useless at one spot. I put a nail into the wall thinking I would feel the meat of wood, but nothing.
I finally found a spot to screw to the old fashioned way, I put holes in the wall on the other side (it's a closet), until I found some meat.

I use these hookers.
You want that hook to screw into a lot of meat, so find a nice stud with strong wood. It needs to be able to support the neck coming in and out a lot.
You do not want that thing to come down on you.

So I am slightly confused. The image you posted looks like the mounting holes are more than 1.5" apart. So do you hit the stud with one fastener, or miss it with both, or mount the thing 90 degrees out? I must be missing something.

Thought about getting a Herc. The moving parts don't exactly entice me to buy. They look fragile and I've heard that the foam they use does a number on bass finishes.

The way it can spin on the axis is good for supporting the axe. It gives equal lift to both sides. If it was stationary, a lot more pressure would be against the sides of the brace instead of downward. The headstock would be fighting to spin the axe, but couldn't. You'd basically be putting a torque force on the headstock all the time.

I was worried about that, but it turns out American P basses have a satin finish. Are the Hercules stands durable in your opinion?

They're the best IMHO, which is why I bought them when MF had them on sale. I didn't buy from MF though, got them slightly cheaper from Music 123 via Walmart.com.

I also wanted to do it for years, but didn't.
I think the main reason I didn't is because it's making room for more. I now have a bunch of empty stands, LOL!

The empty stands crossed my mind too, and I thought about getting some extra wall hanger hooks to hang them from. But that's getting too close to Yoko art.

I will keep the Hercules stand out to put by my amp. It's good, because it can hold any of my guitars. The others won't hold the BC Rich.

They won't hold the bottom properly.

I have had mine hanging for five years on these hooks, works great.
If you look at bdwgml's photo above you will see that the arms moved to fit the shape of the Fender head.
The left goes down and the right goes up, to properly hold the head, and the mounted wood stays straight. It levels it for whatever shape the head stock is.
Also if you accidentally bonk your head on it while loading your gear, the bass will swing a little to absorb the hit.

The reason you can't see it is because it is Mothman, with tort and flats. If you saw it, you would turn to stone.

If there's a number involved, I would prefer an irrational number.
