Double Bass TB + networking = all hail Bob Knebel in Bozeman

I'm not sure this is the right place for this, but call this a "Talkbass Success Story" if you will. About one year ago, I made contact (via TB)with Bob Knebel in Bozeman, MT. Our band, L'Esprit Creole, was going to Montana for an Arts Council showcase and Bob loaned me one of his uprights for our long weekend visit.

This time around, Bob really earned "da man" honors by loaning me his sweet Epiphone upright for about 2 weeks. We just returned from a tour of Montana and Idaho. Upon landing in Bozeman, Bob fixed me up with his Epiphone B-5 upright (really a terrific bass...a puur-fect set-up!), cables, a tuner and assorted doo-dads.

So thanks to TB, thanks for the supporting community of players and most of all thanks to Bob! Everyone in our band (all three of us) are grateful to Bob for his western hospitality and willingness to help. Without his help, our tour would have been a lot more difficult.

Thanks again and let me get an "all-hail-Bob" from everybody.

Hey Rob .... There is no doubt that TalkBass is pretty cool. Everyone around here is real helpful as far as I am concerned. I sure have learned a lot from many folks around here. Sometimes I get in a scrap with some people and shoot my mouth off. It is all in good fun and I would loan any of them my bass if they needed it for a gig out here in The Wild West.

I was happy to meet you and help you out once again. Next time you will have the choice of the Epi B-5 or the Kay O-1 and they will both have "a puur-fect set-up" thanks to Jake deVilliers.

I enjoy your L'Esprit Creole band's music greatly. For a trio, you folks can make a lot of music and you are a fine bass player.

It was nice to hear my bass as I was sitting out-front .... It is weird to play an instrument that you can't really hear its full character except when you aren't playing it .

I loved your "tales of the road" for your recent MT / ID tour. I laughed my butt off about the gig at the nudist resort. I think the finish on my bass turned even more red on account of that gig and it even seems to sound more robust now !

Last Tuesday was mighty strange for me. You remember how I was telling you about the embezzlement of my business ? Well .... after 16 months of suspended animation with the criminal justice system ... It is over .... Except for the next chapter which involves trying to crawl out of a big debt-hole and save our business.

Definitely to keep me in ! My neighbors kept calling the cops whenever I ran wild in their backyards late at night playing my bass.

Oh C'Mon Tom, PeeDubb is way-funnier than me .... not to mention that he wears prettier shoes and is a better bass player .

BTW ..... Jake used your nice photo of the old Kay decal to make reproductions and my '40 Kay will be sporting one when I get it back from him after all his Luthier magic and voodoo is completed.

Hey Pal .... I drove all-the-way down to Denver round-trip maybe 1500 miles on Bad Winter Roads to the MidWinter Bluegrass Festival and was hoping you would be filling-in with some of the bands on bass ... But you weren't there. I should have sent you a PM .... I would have come and saw one of your fine-jazz gigs but the roads in Denver were AWFUL. We landed at The Hotel and never left. If wishes were fishes .... But I did see Gene Libbea .... An original Bluegrass Album Band bassist. That Colorado Guy Has Energy To Spare .... A real Energizer-Bunny type-of-guy. Great bassist. And Erin Youngberg is no-slouch either. She did a good bluegrass-bass workshop.

When it comes right-down to it here around TalkBass ..... I would let too many scum-bag bluegrassers (like myself) / country / billy rockers get away with murder around here . Talk to Mike Ramsey .... He has Some Class to spare.

P.S. I will be pondering the thought (if it is for-real) for The Future. I love TalkBass .... At least the double-bass side of things ... I don't own any electric-type basses of any kind right now ... probably never will. If I can help somehow .... Well, TalkBass has been "bery-bery good to me."

P.S.S. .... Sorry Marcus .... I missed yers ... But if you have read my stuff from before .... You already know that I Respect you a lot (being from another State That Starts With "M" (originally anyhow) ... Thank You for your support !

Don't put too-much stock in the GC of GL's .... That is One (1 .... Count Him .... One) friggin' guy that organized that name with All-The-Buzz-Words just to throw sand into "The Local Tea-Baggers" face since the t-bags were taking up the whole of Main Street on The 4th Of July to protest Taxes. And he wanted to stop that crap. Mind You ... I also hate taxes for Stupid Stuff !!

Hell .... He ain't Green, a Logger, or Gay .... Just bored .... Trying to make A Statement against The T-Bags (which might be useful in our town).

But Yep ... The medical mary-jane deal in Montana is BIG. Our legislature passed a bill last year .... And growers / providers / recommending Doctors / needy patients are coming out of The WoodWork like cockroaches. Many of our towns are trying to figger out The New Law and zoning and how close the Providers and growers should be to our schools and how many new emigrants we might have from Crescent Beach, British Columbia , to Deal With !

Things are always Interesting in Bozeman, Montana ! C'Mon & Visit Sometime.

The best part of our local newspaper is "The Daily Police & Sheriffs Reports" ... Fun stuff about how a racoon got stuck in some old-lady's toilet, how a nice black bear getting ready for winter ate all the bird-seed and apples off the trees in someone's backyard, how a young moose threatened a deputy when confronted in town ....

But the best stories of all .... Are the dumb druggies and crooked-folks-on-the-fly who think our Montana Interstate Highways are free-and clear and our highway patrol officers, local police, and sheriffs are doo-fusses. They need to think again. What I say also applies to Wyoming. Them are stories for another night .... There are so-many good stories about stupid people. Don't mess with MT / WY / or TX . States with good law-enforcement professionals that law-breakers might not want to deal with. Gone for now ....

Bob, thanks for the link to the story on the court case. Almost unreal man...and I'm sorry as all get-out that it happened to you & your bidness. I had no idea that I would unleash a flurry of such colorful comments...all of which I have enjoyed reading.

Had a good conversation w/ the guy who has the Epi upright. I'm going to have to save some beans to make it happen but after playing yours...I've got a fever, and the only cure is more cowbell. Oh no, not cowbell...I meant to say "a vintage Epiphone upright." Too early, not enuf coffee.
