TB pinball enthusiasts?

Just spent a few hours at The Penny Arcade in Manitou Springs, CO. A really great collection of old and new machines, although the playing condition of many leaves a lot to be desired. Worth the trip across town though. My camera lens was smudged but I got this decent shot:

Coin-operated pinball machines have been around for decades, but the game is in the midst of a revival. The International Flipper Pinball Association says there were 500 players in 50 competitions worldwide in 2006. In 2017, more than 55,000 players competed in 4,500 competitions.

“Pinball has been enjoying a renewed interest as a new generation of digital natives discovers the fast-paced kinetic game play that’s easy to learn but tough to master,” chief curator Christopher Bensch said.

^^^Nice! Haven't been to Jackaolope in years. @blairally right now for dinner.

I haven’t been to Blairalley for a while. Jackalope has been my hangout for years. JLope recently kicked out their old amusement game vendor (Amusements Unlimited) because they were terrible at maintaining the games. The new vendor brought in brand new pool tables and pinball machines (the old pool tables were “dead”, everyone complained about them). The video games might also be new or at least refurbished to like new. Of course there aren’t near as many as Blairalley.

Anyway it’s a blast from the past for me to play Attack From Mars again on a brand new machine with everything working and the other improvements. :)

Note to self: Resize the photos before you upload them. Those are gigantic.

Eugene is hosting the state pinball championship tournament for the first time, at Blairally. Hopefully this link isn’t behind a paywall (I’m a subscriber).

In a couple of firsts, the city will host the sixth state championship, and five of its 24 competitors will be from the local area

Twenty-four contestants are coming to Eugene for the first time later this month to vie to become Oregon’s champion pinball wizard.

And, in another first, five of those contestants will hail from Lane County’s metropolitan area.

It’s all a major coup for local pinball enthusiasts who have been working to establish an identity separate from Portland, the nation’s pinball mecca and home of the first five state championships. In 2017, Willamette Week determined the Rose City is home to 722 pinball machines, more than any other U.S. city.

“It’s gratifying because it’s a lot of work on our end, but we know that people really enjoy what we’re doing,” said Matt Walton, co-founder of Emerald City Pinball and one of the five local qualifiers.

I barely played in competition this past year so my rating is horrible but I'll be there taking part in the Pinball Chump tournament, which is open to all.

Blairally has a new Beatles pinball, which is rather fantastic, IMO. Very fast, constant flipping, hard to trap makes for an exciting time. No clue about the soundtrack as you can't hear squat from most of the machines due to general noise. Haunted House is currently working (knock on wood).

Going by my lousy memory, the current pin lineup is (modern)Star Wars, Deadpool, Beatles, Junk Yard, NBA Fastbreak (two of them linked{really rare}), Harlem Globetrotters, Flash Gordon, Fathom, Skateball, Space Invaders, Haunted House, Volcano, Flip Flop, Buck Rogers, Whirlwind, Earth Shaker, Fun House, Taxi, Banzai Run (recently put up 17 million on it), Twilight Zone, Jurassic Park, Rocky & Bullwinkle, Dr. Who, and Fish Tales.

After bass and beer, playing pinball is my top hobby/money drain. Got into it a couple of years ago and play at least a couple of times a week. Getting pretty good, too.

Just wondering if anyone else out there loves to play? Do you all own any of your own tables? Post pics if you do!

Can't say recently by any stretch, but if I had back all the quarters I dropped in pinball machines back when I was a kid, I'd be able to buy another Rickenbacker.

Jackalope’s Deadpool has been replaced with Houdini, first game from American Pinball. Looks great but it has some setup “issues” including not awarding credits correctly when inserting coins or bills. Too many air balls, dead pop/jet bumpers. Game flow stops for long animations on the display.
