TB Running Thread

I really enjoyed the adrenalines in that it had a good bounce to them, much softer than the trance, although i do have two pairs if trance 8 and a pair of trance 7. Brooks are one of my favorite companies, in that they spend so much money into developement.

I run a bit.

Never liked the Nike+ thing because it doesn't gauge my mileage correctly (as least when I fit it into an old pair of shoes). I may try it again since I'm training in a pair of Nikes half the time now.

Hello all. I have recently decided to start running again. Back in high school when I was playing on three soccer teams, I was running 5k in around 21 minutes. For the last 9 months I have been playing a bunch of squash, which is great, but I really wanted to start running distance again. Tonight I went out shoe shopping and bought a pair of Saucony C2's. Super comfortable, super light, highly recommended by several runners that I talked to. They were also half off, I couldn't believe my eyes when I walked into the store. I am starting the running tomorrow morning. I will aim for 20 minutes of running, hope to get up to 30 minutes before long.

I want to start tracking my times and distance. What is the best way to do this? Thanks.

If you go to www.mapmyrun.com, there is a tool that allows you to track your distances based on google maps. I've found it to be VERY helpful. You can save a profile, your favorite runs, etc. Very convenient.

For time, I typically use the watch portion of a Polar heartrate device. I usually mark out a distance and try to accomplish it in a given time.

Hope this helps!

I've started running but taking my time ramping up, since I've hated it in the past because I'd push myself too hard, have problems with my asthma, and hurt my knees. I'm following this plan:

I've always liked biking more than running, but with my life (two kids), squeezing in a short run has been easier.

I aim to run 3x a week, and usually end up running 2x a week... stupid life of a musician keeping me up late!

Anyways, I'm really slow and don't have much endurance right now... I run a loop through my neighborhood that's about a mile and a quarter, and it takes me about 20 minutes right now (it includes a stop at a specific spot for extended stretching and usually a little bit of walking). My plan right now is to keep running this loop for a couple more weeks and get faster through it, then look for a longer loop to tackle.

BTW, I use an app for my iPhone called RunKeeper. It uses the GPS to track your run, and can overlay your path on a map after you've completed your run. It's pretty nifty, and I use the free version. It logs all your runs, so it's a cool way to keep track of your progress.

As far as shoes, I use Saucony something or other; not sure of the specific model number, but they're crazy supportive, very solid, very comfortable, and they're not quite as ugly as most of the other running shoes out there. Why are running shoes so hideous, anyways?

well, good and bad points about my run this morning... I did a proper warm-up and stretching before my run (by going around the block to get the mail first), and after a proper breakfast as well, my run started wonderfully. I ran faster and farther before my first "stretch-stop" than I normally do, and it was feeling great, but I completely ran out of gas about 3/4 of the way through the run, and my "cool down walk" was longer than normal. I definitely need to work on pacing. But, the good part of the run was so much better than normal that my overall time was still faster than previous runs, even with a longer walk at the end.

So I'm definitely seeing improvements and feeling encouraged, but I also see where I need to work to get better.

Went for my first run tonight, I know, it wasn't yesterday morning like I said it would be. I ran 1.21 miles in about 14 minutes, tracked with mapmyrun.com. It felt good, I could have run further at the same pace, but I figured that I should take it easy for now. I hope to run a 5k in under 25 minutes in October, that is my goal for now. For some reason mapmyrun wouldn't let me log it as a workout, kept saying that I can only enter digits. No idea what that means, I just entered my times and that was it. Any ideas? Here is the run that I did.
