TC bh500 help

Can I use just the head without a cab hoked up? using the direct out on the head? I do not want to carry my 4x10 to practice and we have a small PA there with 4 monitors, I want to just DI out of my head into the PA, would doing this blow my amp up? I have heard to NEVER use an amp without a load. Thank you!!

That only applies to amps with output transformers (ie: tube amps)
