TC Cab or Ampeg???

I just ordered the TC BH800 head and I can't decide what to pair it with.

I can get a good deal on a TC RS212 or RS410 however, I just went into a local shop and they are
blowing out some new Ampeg Anniversary 2x12 cab and the 1x12 cab for a few bucks less than the TC cabs.

Help me decide, should I stick with either a TC 212 or 410?
Or go Ampeg with a 2x12 or two 1x12 cabs?

Any of those would be fine. No problem mixing heads and cabs. Have you heard the TC cabs? If you can try and love the Ampeg vs buy before trying a cab you have never heard.. getting the one you know you like sounds fine. If there is any way to compare them, just get the one you like best. Bird in the hand etc...

Don't worry about what we like. :) All are fine cabs and it's pretty likely you'd be happy with whichever you picked up.

I have a RS210 and a RS212 and they sound very much the same. The 212 gets louder and stays fuller lower when played loud. If you like the RS210 I'm nearly positive you'll like the RS212 and it will get louder for you too. I've never seen or heard the RS410.

I had good experience with the RS212. Personally, on a 410, I'd look elsewhere just on the weight of that RS410.

I agree with Scott, both on the character of the RS212 vs the RS210 and that you'll likely be happy with any of the cabinets you're looking at.

The RS212 has an oddball form factor...very deep. Its dimensions are close to some other 212s sideways. It's not the lightest, but it's not the heaviest. With the dimensions and handle position, it's an easy carry.

Minor observations/considerations on the Ampegs...I don't know if the little foot cup grommet thingies on the top might become a small nuisance (no problem if the BH feet fall outside of them). They (8) would obviously be arranged to accept the feet on Ampeg heads/cabinets. The 212 is about the same size/weight as some 410s. That may or may not be a consideration for you (I assume not, if you're considering an RS410). The Ampegs have 1/4" inputs (not Speakon)...not a reason to not buy a cabinet but a minor consideration if all other things are found equal.

"Some new Ampeg Anniversary 212." Gonna have to be more specific. If you want a 212, the T.C. has a fine track record. The "some new," who really knows?

If the "some new" Ampeg Anny 212/112 are the SVT-AV cabs, silver/blue cloth, I'd give em a good consideration if the price is lowered and they are new cabs. I now have a 212AV and two 112AV cabs and they pair nicely with my ri-V4B. But also very nice with my Genz Benz 12.2 or GK MB800 heads. I really hear something nice n different when I pair these AV cabs with any of my amps. I have another 212, TC-E RS-210x2 and a TB153. I use passive J5 or P5 for my gigs.

The AV cabs have pushed themselves up to the front of the line for the new tone they offer me with either of my amps/basses. Check em out and let us know what you think.

Thanks, but no special knowledge or word to take here. IMHO this is a situation that probably doesn't have any "bad" moves.
RS212, 212AV, 2 X 112AV...I'd take any of those choices. My comment on the RS410 is based purely on the weight (I've not used one and it's not really a lauded cab), and that's a personal preference matter.

I have no experience with the Ampegs in question, but I've read from satisfied owners. I'd assume from the rating and cabinet size that the they'd be able to get louder/lower than the RS212, but that's speculation.

You might want to look at the new K series cabs from TCE. There was a thread on here about them a couple days ago, actually a couple threads (go figure...).

Basically it's the same powerhandling as the RS series cabs, but the drivers aren't Eminence, instead they are listed as TCE and Lavoce. No idea how the price stacks up against the RS series either.

I spoke to a TC rep yesterday and the K-series cabs won't be available to ship until April.
The Ampeg cabs are the SVT-112AV and SVT-212AV. I can get a new in-box 212 for $400 or a a couple 112s in boxes for $200 ea.

I'd have to order the RS212 (unable to test it) and pay a bit more with shipping costs over the Ampeg 212.

I'd take "shipping in April" as "shipping sometime between May and October...maybe November."

Those are awfully attractive prices on the Ampegs.
