TC Cab or Ampeg???

Wow, those are some nice prices on the AV's. If it was me, I'd get 2x112AV's at that price. I'm gona gig my two 112AV's for the first time next Friday at a club with small stage. Plan to stack the AV's vert; though not sure I'll want to place the V4B on top.
I've been eyeing that VR micro for such situations. But now that 17lb new Fender hybrid amp just caught my eye. Be much easier to place that amp above vertical 210's or 112's than the V4B. Will prolly just use my GB 12.2 for this first time.

well I was speaking more to a height thing; like stacked end to end. My 212AV is a squatty little cab that I try to raise or tilt when used solo. For me my two 112AV's at 24" wide will have the top cab sit up nicely to my ears rather than the 34" inches height of the two of them stacked horizontally.

You must be pretty short...stacked sideways, the center of the top speaker would be at 36". That wouldn't really be nicely up to my ears :smug:

Seriously, whatever works for you is great. If it were me, that wouldn't be enough to justify dealing with putting feet on the sides of the cabs or the appearance. If there were a meaningful difference, I'd just raise the whole thing.

Wow, really? My OP reply was really sorta tongue n cheek to OP's thread. I was thinking of my situation this coming Friday's gig. Small stage area. Stacking the two, 112AV's vert was more a limited space thing for me. I didn't elaborate on all that as I was kinda just thinking out loud. No, I wasn't planning to install feet on the ends of the cabs just for this. You really are overthinking all of this.
Didn't think there'd be a whole, third degree on my single sentence reply back there. Sheesh. Some just have to beat a subject to death around here so they can have the last word and be right.
Onward and Upward my friend!

I've been an ampeg cab guy for a while but i don't use their heads. I ended up playing ampeg cabs more so because i had some other cabs back in the day, swr, Eden, peavey. The ampeg cabs just held up better. To me with ampeg its a don't fix it if it isn't broken scenario. With everything else it's a be ready to fix it because it will eventually need repairs scenario. I've owned 3 classic cabs. Never had an issue with any of them every cab I've owned that wasn't an ampeg ended up having issues.

I think you've taken something in a way that wasn't intended. You can't read tone (even with smilies), and I can assure you I'm not overthinking ANY of this.

You and chazsundance are the ones who own these cabs. Whatever I might think of how you use them matters not one bit in the grand scheme.

But it's an open forum…we're free to remark on our thoughts, including our thoughts on comments made by others.

I found your advice to "stack them vertically" humorous and wasn't even sure if you were joking (with a smilie wink) that the somewhat rampant advice about "vertical stacking" should be extended to any oblong cabinet.

In your reply to me, the idea that turning these cabinets on their sides works to "have the top cab sit up nicely to my ears" also struck me as a humorous exaggeration (in that you're talking about moving the center of the top driver from "thigh-height" to "hip-height").

All in good fun. If you really are 3 feet tall and sensitive about your height, I had no idea and was not intending to insult you about that.

Hell, it might be great advice to turn these cabinets on their sides and stack 'em; might make all the difference as a practical matter. Again, as I don't own a pair of these, it doesn't really matter to me. That doesn't keep certain things from striking me as funny.

Back to the OP. Post back after you've played them a while. How do they sound to you? What do they sound like... if that's possible to describe. GC and local stores only have so much inventory. I'd love to get together with a handful of bass players.. each bring your head and cab, all meet somewhere and hear other rigs.. or cabs etc. No idea how it would be done, but I wish I could hear other cabs.

Scott, check for TB clubs and get-togethers (GTGs) in your area (there are subforums for this). I have warehouse space and have been hosting for a MD/DC/VA group for 3 years now.

And yes, the stacked 810 thing was short and pretty funny, massive, but funny. I think the venue thought it would be a cool idea cause the previous week King's X had played and Dug P. had his stacked like that.
