Yeah, need to order a Le Cover for mine. The tolex seems softer and more fragile than the stuff on my GK and of course Peavey's seem to be covered with what looks like rubberized asphalt, LOL.

Are you guys finding the 1/4" inch foam padding is sufficient?

Got the 1/4", and at least for my purposes, it's more than sufficient. I didn't notice the strap option when I ordered.

The shell and padding seem as good/robust (if not more so) as the other covers I have experience with from TCE (for RS cabs) and Bergantino. It's definitely more stout than I was expecting when I ordered.

Unless someone has fairly extreme protection requirements, I find it hard to imagine getting the 1/4" and thinking "I should have gone with the 1/2" padding."

Got my amp way back in may, a couple of things - it takes a while for the amp to settle in, and as another poster has pointed out in this forum, once the gain and master are over 5 the sound really opens up, I rehearsed last night with spactracomp on around 4 and tubedrive around 6 with the tc switch and its hard to describe how meaty the sound was, still being suprised after this length of time. The amp is slightly cumbersome but v light, money very well spent, oh and its loud, never past 6 and thats with drummer/2 guitars

Good report :bassist:

Yeah, I've always thought it was a little cumbersome too. Because of the size, handles on the sides would make it a breeze for a two-hand carry and still easy (or even easier) to carry with one hand. At its height, some lift is involved in getting it around. Using one side handle would allow it to "hang."

What I'm noticing over time is that it doesn't seem so light anymore, ha!

I was dragging-ass the other night, carrying it to the car and actually though it felt heavy :p

Oh well, I guess that's just the nature of getting used to something like that. For the first few weeks, I was making everyone I came into contact with lift it.

maybe TC-E has problem distinguishing weight. I bought two RS-210 cabs online. They showed to be like 29lbs or so. I weighed em here at home once they arrived....mmm more like 34lbs or so IIRC. Still darn nice cabs I use em with either my Markbass F1 or GB Streamer 900, works great at gigs.

I'm now shopping for a lightweight combo amp; gotta be 23-26lbs tops since I'll have to one hand it thru downtown streets to new rehearsal space. The BG250 has been in my sights but I don't really need that kinda power at all for these rehearsals. Thinking to check out a B20-B30 @ GC to see what if they might work for me. Cool features on this BG250 for sure. May still check one out. :smug:

Heavy, light, it's all relative. My comment was half-tongue-in-cheek. 34 lbs is 34 lbs. I haven't weighed mine, but I don't question the spec. It absolutely is light for its size, relative to most experiences. It's not uncommon for amps and cabinets that are about the same size to weigh almost twice as much.

On the size and handle placement alone, I don't think you want to do a one-hand carry on "downtown streets" with the BG250. That'd probably still be true if it somehow were able to weigh 5 or even 10 lbs less.

Sound + Weight = a great product. Might want to purchase a cheap dolly, quite capable of handling the BG250.

Office Depot: http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/487188/Global-Hardlines-Collapsible-Handi-Truck-39/

I use it to tote my awesomely heavy GK 4x10 cabinet. Hasn't failed me yet! It's why I need the BG250!!

for 400 bucks. I don't know how TC's going to sell any of their $1500.00 combo's with this thing around...you could get three of them!

Most amazing 400 dollar bass amp in history. Incredible little thing. I'd gig with it. And I think I'll get one NOW before tc puts the price up...WAY up!

Cheers,
Cameron

Regardless of the money involved, when I realized how capable the BG250 is, it had me scratching my head a little bit over my other gear (I have an RH750 and SVT7Pro - RS212 and Uber410).

So, I have more power available to me in in other gear...but anything up to the point that I'm going to have PA support can be handled by the BG250, and if I have PA support, why do I need anything more than the BG250?

To top things off, I've just joined a band that's 100% IEM. No amps at rehearsals and they've said I can use an amp on stage if I want, but once I adjust, there's no need for it.

I just love plopping either head on the Uber410 and being able to do serious damage :bassist:

Funny I originally got mine to scale back my pedalboard but I expanded it!

The onboard effects are great don't get me wrong but logistically they're not working for me needs and changing them between songs with my iPhone is clunky and I'm so used to having my tuner under my feet and not on the amp.

I still love the sound and the weight though huge pluses especially for the price.

Pepper once you get used to IEM's you'll never go back just need to get a good set of earphones.

Yeah I find myself using comp in the middle and tubetone 90% of the time but its nice to now the other stuff is there.

Real owners of BG 250! Can you tell me is there a cooling fan or the cooling is passive? If there's the fan is it noisy? I don't play gigs anymore but still play at home a lot so I'm looking for the combo which is NOT hissing all the time. Also does anyone of you play Rick through it? Rick is quite capricious, I mean the amps. I'm tired buy and sell combos trying to find something decent. I live in Moscow and I can't try it in person, we order in Europe. :crying:
Thank you in advance.

No cooling fan that I'm aware of. If it is it's inaudible. The amp head portion is vented.

There's a little ambient noise but the amount you get depends a lot on what levels you have the gain, tube drive and master volume set at. Up to about 5 on both gain and master it's virtually silent unless you stick your ear directly in front of the speaker.

The amp sounds great at those levels and I can't imagine running either of those settings beyond that playing at home or in a studio. Even my GK MB112 has some ambient noise as the master/gain setting increases above 5.

Even at full volume on the master the noise is very low when the gain is at 7 or below. As you bring up the gain past 7 the ambient noise increases but typically you wouldn't run the gain above that anyway even at a gig. The amp begins to clip with my passive pickups beyond that.

I doubt you'd ever run the master volume that high either. I did a gig with a 7 piece blues band with the gain set at 7 and the master volume between 4-5 all night and never had a problem being heard. That would be way to loud in my den where I practice.

Increasing the setting on the Tube Drive increases the ambient noise somewhat too but not until you get around 8 and above.

I don't play a Ric so I can't give you any feedback there at all. What I can tell you is that using either my Jazz or PBass at the volumes one would typically use at home the amp is nearly silent. I also wouldn't describe what ambient noise is there as a hiss. It's more low pitched. More like the sound of the ocean at a distance or the sound of conch shell when you hold it to your ear.

Hope this helps.

I've used TC amps with my Rics for 3 years now. I wouldn't use anything else. They sit well together.
I have an RH750 with 2 x 210 cabs and I also use the BG250 for rehearsal and small to medium gigs. No problem.
I do string my basses BEAD and at high volume, the BG250 can fart a bit on the B string.
Hope that helps.

Well I did sample one of the octavers and it sounded good but it was not something I would be using in my modern country band, It was just the standard one.

As for toneprints, I wonder which one is the most used for our group? I use the SpectraComp compressor when I play out and it sounds good. I don't have a smart phone so that means I can't change it when I'm playing out unless I bring my laptop or maybe talk a friend into using their his phone.

Btw, I did use the BG250 for an entire set for my band recently. I brought my dinosaur Gallien-Krueger Backline full stack (600 RB with 1x15 and 4x10 cabs) just in case but I didn't need it. I had plenty of volume in a large bar/roadhouse setting; of course, we really don't play all that loud but still I had no problems with it. So I guess I will be selling my rig on Craiglist or some other way.

After trying to use the other effects for a while and finding some of them just to be too subtle for me, I too am using comp in the middle as my toneprint of choice. I don't care for the spectracomp especially since I have a few pedals and it likes to squash the effect too much. Comp in the middle is like having a mid boost at your command for when you want to cut through the mix without boosting your signal, pretty cool. I'm lazy so I'll probably just leave it on, but if you have more of a scooped sound for country (heck I don't know how country people eq their stuff) it'd be cool when you want to stand out every once in a while.

Hey, folks

TCE is offering a free Corona Chorus pedal with new purchases of the BG250 and some other units. The offer is good from now till Dec. 31 and the participating dealers include Guitar Center and Musicians Friend.

Here's the link:

The Corona Chorus sells for $129.99 at GC so that's an amazing free offer IMHO.

I wish now I had held off getting my BG250; I just got it in late September or early October.
