I was looking for a better upright amp, my SWR Workingmans 2004 and matching 2x10 just were not doing it for me. Came across the TC Electronic BG500 at Guitar Center, for $350. These list at 900+, and had been selling just under $700. Yesterday I picked on up (got 10% off for "trade in-trade up").
The input resistance is 1M ohm, so it works well my Hurley Virtuoso straight in, no preamp. With the controls all at noon it gives a very neutral kind of tone, maybe a bit of added fullness, but I like that. The EQ offers a very broad range, a little move goes a long way, not hard to control, just a lot of range. Tweeter tone knob is handy, front mounted for your conveince. The Tubetone control gives a nice range of added fatness with out getting ugly. On board tuner with mute switch is a plus. Added goodness, XLR line out with pre/post EQ option.
Several features I won't be needing, but they aren't in the way: three band compressor (I just leave it on 0), three presets, RCA dual line in.
Down sides, around 70lbs total weight, no extension speaker out.
Overall a great deal and very usable for my upright needs. Enjoy it with my Dano Longhorn too. Well worth the original price, great bargain at this price.
