Hi guys.

My 4 month old TCE BG250-115 has broken. It makes an awful crackle sound when played. I've spoken to the supplier and theyre giving me store credit for the amp.

I'm really reluctant to go back to an amp that broke within 4 months of purchase and was wondering if anyone could suggest an alternative amp for same cash.

Really unhappy about the build quality of TC's gear. If it isnt lasting 4 months, I dont want to go back to the brand.

Hope someone can help :)

What is broken on it?

Its not just that, bassrich. I know what youre saying, but im actually unhappy with the amp as well as the fact its knackered. It was an impulse buy, and thought id use toneprints, but theyre just gimmicks, and not practical to use live. "Hold on guys, sorry to stop everyone dancing on the dance floor and completely disrupt the set, but ive got to fanny about with my phone to put a touch of chorus on"

The tone is OK - But not brilliant. The amp is exceptionally light, but thats because its seemingly made from woodchip and crap faux leather.

Just not happy, so really appreciate people like Linnin answering the question I asked in order to make an informed decision on my next amp. Lessons learned from TC.

Life's too short to worry about going against your gut when there are so many choices out there, but realize that you're unhappy about the build quality of the unit that you got, not the build quality of "TC's gear" globally.

At this crossroad, you could get ANY amp, be unlucky, and have it fail on you.

What's your store credit, $400? GK, Fender, Peavey, Ampeg, Acoustic and others all have recommendable amps for that price. They're likely to have different specs and features. They all have their fans. Any one of those (provided it doesn't fail on you) that meets your needs will make you happy.

What was your use of the BG250? Did you need all of its volume? What features do you want?

Does it have to be store credit, or is there any way you can get a refund? If you could do that and are only buying new, Carvin would be a good one to consider.

It beggars belief that TC dont provide a sodding android app to store your own customizable presets for toneprint too. Instead tlyouve got to use someone elses. Im not someone else. Someone else wont be playing a crappy Tanglewood Rebel 4K tgrough the amp, theyll have bloody Rick 4003's or a bass from the future nobodys ever played before except to do this one toneprint. Naff.

Thanks for the recommendations drpepper. Ill take a look at those. Not sure of exchange rate, but amp was around £350 ($500ish?!?). I use the amp to DI to the PA, so thats important, but my amp still acts as my monitor, and I use pre-EQ. Ironically, I dont like a massively bassy tone, and like Paul Turners tone (Jamiroquai) if I had to pick one. Maybe that helps, maybe it doesnt :)

Ah, I should have taken from your use of "knackered" that you weren't in the US. Never mind on the Carvin then. I'm guessing that $ for $ (or £ for £), you might be seeing more 112s than 115s.

Maybe one of those will do it for you volume-wise. You might take a look at some of the kickback designs (Hartke, Laney, etc.). A buddy of mine went from a Ampeg & SWR 410 setup to a Hartke 112 kickback, and (like you, primarily as a stage monitor) he's completely happy.
