TC RH450 Club

I have had my Rh450 for a year or so now.
I had kind of gotten over it recently (probably just gas for new stuff :D)

Anyways, I came across all the videos TC Electronic have on youtube.
After optimising the compression, gain, volume etc as shown, the amp just came to life for me once more.

I then re-set to flat settings and slowly adjusted the EQ.
I now have an absolutely thumping fat tone with some grunt to it.
Back in love with it again now.

It kills with my Genz Benz 212 4ohm cab, and my Pbass.

Good times :)

There's a used one at my local GC for $415 that I just saw Sunday. Now I've got one to try out with all the different cabs they have there. Lots of MarkBass cabs and a few GK's and I want to run it through an Ampeg fridge as well.

I'm sure this is has been asked before but, has anyone compared the RH450 to the Ampeg PF500? Not so much tone but volume wise. I recently picked up 2 RS212 cabs and was thinking about getting the RH450. Reason for the question is I sold my Ampeg PR410hlf to a guy that is using the PF500. When he was testing it out he had it up 3/4 and while the tone was good the volume was ok. I would have liked to test the PF500 with my 2 RS212's but didn't want to ruin the sale. Playing in a rock band, with a kind of loud drummer and the ever present Marshall half stack. Thanks!

Thanks Steve. I'm going to test with my LH1000 using only one side again. I did this when I first picked up the cabs and remember it being louder than PF500. But that was just from memory and since I didn't want to ask to use the PF500 I'm sure it's just me. I do remember that 1 RS212 at 8ohms seemed to have the same "volume" as the Ampeg PR410hlf at 4ohms. When I picked up the 2nd RS212 it was considerably louder than the Ampeg. I'm sure there's a logical explanation but I think the Ampeg cab just wasn't as efficient as the TC.

Yeah, I had a PF500 for a little while. Great sound with the RS212. I hesitate somewhat to try to compare ultimate volume because it's something, even in comparing amps directly, that I think we only get a sense of. Speaking for myself, I never pitted the amps against each other in a maximum volume grudge match. I think we also take false (or at least not necessarily true) indications from knob positions.

That said, the impression that I got from comparing the two is that IF the PF500 could have been as loud or louder than the RH450, it would have been with the master nearly dimed. As a rule of *personal* comfort, I don't like having to routinely turn the master up to 3:00-4:00 (but there's that pesky knob position potential fallacy). The sense that I got in using it was that I would need to push it too hard for some of my gigs (small but loudish, rock covers, banging drummer, Marshall half-stack with a guitarist who felt he couldn't get "his tone" without cranking), which I never felt with the RH450.

Since another poster put up a message from an Ampeg tech saying that if you have to push it past 12:00-1:00, you need more amp, I at least feel that I'm not alone.

The simplicity of getting a straight-up, bread and butter rock tone out of the PF500 by pretty much just turning it on can't be argued with. If you always have PA reinforcement, then it's certainly "loud enough" for anything.

Since we are all using digital amps here, has anyone been concerned with power surges. It just seems to me that digital equipment is more sensitive to these surges than other (analog) equipment and I feel like the RH450, RH750 is no exception. Is anybody using surge protection and has there been anyone that has had any problems with power surges?

I am not concerned and I have not heard of anyone having problems with this and it automatically adjusts it's self wherever you plug in over the world, be it 110 volt to 240. I guess it has some pretty well thought out protection going on and if you are running at 110 volts a little surge is nothing if it can handle 240 volts

I got a Combo 450 head a couple weeks ago and have really enjoyed the sound recording direct, but I cannot for the life of me find a used RS212 cab (for ~$400 shipped) anywhere. If anyone has one they'd like to unload please let me know! I've been playing through a Hartke B10 in the meanwhile and it's killing me :p

Check eBay. They are on there fairly often. And here on TB.

Had an issue last Wednesday night that happened right after rehearsal and at the beginning of service. Seemed like the head would fade out when I stopped playing and would gradually warm up to regular volume and die back out between songs if I didn't tap or bump a string periodically to keep the signal going

Anyone have an issue like that or have had that problem?
