Tech 21 at NAMM

as for blend knobs, i still get a kick out of what lloyd told someone who complained about it...i think it was posted in this thread, too..."it's supposed to imitate the sounds of an svt, and svt's don't have blend knobs."
Actually Jimmy it was a question rather than a complaint. I don't have the cojones to complain about my favorite pedal manufacturer's products right there at their booth at the NAMM show! :D We had a really pleasant conversation to be honest.

I keep trying to get the guitarists in my band to try their new character series pedals but so far they just don't get it. Tech 21 isn't even on their radar. :(

But many recordings and live sound situations are done by blending a little bit of clean DI channel with a mic'ed up SVT, for the same reasons I use a blend pedal (i.e. to preserve low end punch), so it would have been a nice addition. I don't think we're spoiled, we just know what we want and if we state it on here enough times the manufacturers may take notice! Many bass pedals are coming with blend features as standard these days so I don't think it's too much to ask...
you know danny, i remember the day when bass amps didn't have di's and mutable tuner outs, and i remember the days when there were no real distortion units for bass. hell, i remember when effects didn't have led's! can't tell you how many times i left an envelope filter on all set accidentally ;)

but i'm old and i digress. besides, for me it works fine without one, so i'm good. but a mutable tuner out on the vt deluxe would have been nice  still, i'll muddle through.

you guys are too spoiled. you expect every effect now to be all things to everyone.

Not really, I for one would be sold on it if it had a blend knob. It would be a hell of a lot more versatile. I could be used as a complete ampeg amp sim, or as a blendable overdrive device. When I use higher gain sounds I really do prefer to have a little clean in there regardless of how many people tell me 'such and such device retains low end quite well'.

As a matter of fact, it's the only thing that puts me off getting one, it just doesn't quite do what I want. And besides, the regular BDDI is designed to emulate the SVT amongst others but that has a blend.

Accurate? No. Versatile? Definitely.

If one does not need the effects loop, and doesn't need all 6 presets...

I wonder how many of you who wish the VT Deluxe had a blend have actually used the VT. It seems like most of you want the blend to use the VT as an overdrive. I think that if you actually tried it out at higher gain sounds, you would soon realize that it is an ampeg simulator, not a distortion pedal. Yes, it can do OD and distortion sounds, but to be honest, they suck, and suck HARD. They suck in a way that can't be fixed bý blending.

There is a reason why the VT deluxe is set up the way it is. You stick your dirt pedals in the loop, and you turn them on as necessary.

Personally, I would much rather it have two effects loops: one pre-gain for all your dirt pedals, and one post-gain for delay and modulation, but I realize that I'm probably in a tiny minority for holding that position.

The VT's overdrive/distortion sounds sound pretty good to me with a bit of EQ adjustment. Not sure I understand....

I agree that a blend control would make the unit more versatile.

Get 'IM!!! :hiding: :p

varunka, $280. sorry about your robbery.

jmatt, i'll be using it in place of my ebs microbass ii and plugging my electric and upright into it. i'll probably just bypass it for the upright, though. and i'll have a couple other effects in the loop probably (i'll decide when i get it).

Speaking of the loop, is it run pre or post effect circuitry? I've been a little curious about that. Seems like it would be most useful to put it after the circuit, but before the DI. Can anyone confirm that this is how it is on the BDDeluxe?

I won't get it unless I can use it as a DI, and based on the BDDI I didn't much care for the way the cab emulator killed my HOG effects. If the HOG can run after the VT but before the DI then I can have the Uber bass tone and a full unfettered harmony besides.

Kinda my thoughts as well. I'd like to know where everything 'sits'. Personally I am hoping I could set either the di before the loop or the effects after to get my clean signal to the board and then blend it with my mic'd cab for any effects I may have on.
