Tech 21 Announces Bass Fly Rig v2 Multi-Effects Floor Unit

I wish I liked Tech 21 stuff more. This really has everything I would ever use. Compression. Preamp. Drive. Filter. Octave. Chorus. DI. And it's SO SMALL it's almost like it's not a thing.

I currently use a Sonic tuner, Empress compressor and REDDI with a little Big Muff once in a while. It sounds glorious. The REDDI alone is like 4 times the size and weight and 3 times the cost of the Fly Rig. Part of me is like, it would be so sweet to not have a pelican case with my REDDI and Nano and just toss the Fly Rig in my bag and be done. But the "gear snob" in me is the REDDI and Empress is the best sound I've ever heard.

Anyway, a very cool thing for $299.

I have way too many pedals already, but I'm quite interested in the fly rig v2 as most of my gigs are open air and on or near the beach and sometimes I just really don't want to bring my nicer gear out, esp if I know it's going to be a very wet or dusty scene. I prob won't use the octave or chorus, but the rest of it seems quite useful for what I need.

Nice, I'm interested.

I just read through both the old V1 manual and the new V2 manual, and two aspects stood out to me aside from the obvious differences.

The MID knob now cuts @ 1khz and boosts @ 2khz, similar to the YYZ pedal. I love my YYZ pedal and found this to be really useful.

Looks like the range knob on the octafilter section for the V2 may have been adjusted in some way, but I could be mistaken as it might just be how this section interacts with the adjusted sansamp section on the V2. If you compare the V1 sample settings to the V2 sample settings for the MUSE/Uprising-style, the Q and Mix settings are the same, but the Range is backed-off a bit on the V2 version. PINO/Octave Funk-style has a very big Range setting difference on the V2 compared to the V1, but there's also a different setting for the Mix knob - who knows!

I am getting one as soon as available here!

Great info from them

Ugh!!... Here I've got the four or five different gizmos figured out that I think I want for this 'n that sound and along comes this thing. Looks like Tech 21 has cooked up the sane decision compared with doing the pedalboard, patch cords, power supplies, yaddah-yaddah.

I think I need to sample either this one or the dUg.

Yes the "char"-button switches between BDDI circuitry and VTDI circuitry, so it's a 2 in one sansamp character! I have the VTDI pedal, so will be happy to also have the BDDI at my disposal.

Neat concept but I'm not feeling the motivation to sell my v1 and buy a v2.

Had one. The inability to effectively set and switch between clean and OD channels made this a non-contender.

I've got one on order. SweetWater said late June.

I've got one on order from Sweetwater as well. Late July for me, guess I missed out on the first batch. I've never been a pedal user before, but this seems like it covers all the bases that I might use for now (and it has an in/out for other pedals when I inevitably decide I want more, I know how this goes).

I purchased one this past winter cause I was bored
Had it on my board for a short time it did not play well with my active ModelT bass in a live setting
It now lives in my practice area and works well as a stand alone for practice and my Temple Audio pedal board stays packed for gigs

I got one from Sweetwater but, unfortunately is defective. The output is too high and the tuner does not function properly. I am sending it back and getting a replacement once they are off backorder. From my brief experimentation, I really like having what is essentially 4 SansAmps in one pedal. Gives a bunch of options for different tones. The forecast is for 2-5 weeks before a replacement is available. Fingers crossed. I really like th v1 and have gotten some real usable sounds out of the effects, I'm hoping for big things from the v2.

I'd like to hear more about these issues.

When engaged I got immediate feedback from too high an output when using either my Bongo or passive Jazz. I had to back the level down a bit. When switching on the fuzz, if the mix was up there was instant overload and excessive gain. Same with the octave. It seemed like the signal was being amplified too much. When switching in the pad it was more usable, but difference in volume between pad in/out was more than it should have been. When engaging the tuner, the unit muted but the display for the tuner did not work. I just seemed to have gotten a bum unit. I have the original version and it works flawlessly with passive and 9v and 18v preamps. I can't imagine the underlying structure of the pedal was changed that much from v1 to v2. I will update when I get my replacement unit.
