Tech 21 GED 2112 question

Hello all, I am looking to do some recording, and could use a nice rack mount preamp solution to do that with. I think the GED 2112 looks like a great unit, but how versatile is it? I keep watching videos and while everyone gets a nice driven/distorted sound, that's not all I would want it to do. And I don't really like Rush or want to sound like Geddy Lee, although he's certainly a great bass player and all.

So, does it do other sounds well? Motown type stuff, maybe?

Thanks!

I have one and love it for cleaner sounds too, though when I do this I’m favoring the actual drive channel for the controls it has over tone.

The mid frequency gain will affect the breakup sounds, and so what I’ll often do with my fretless is dial in the drive, highs and lows and then tweak the mids.

How I’ll dial it in is basically try to get a little bit of overdrive kicking in when I pluck a somewhat hard doublestop, and once that’s set I’ll control dynamics with my right hand.
