I was just wondering if you could run it through a solid state amp or if you could use it in place of an amp head. It sounds really cool and I might be looking into one

sure, you can do all of that. I have the programmable BDDI. I run it into the input of my Ampeg B2R (leaving the amp flat). In the rehearsal space we've got a crappy Peavey TNT, I run the pBDDI into the power amp in. And playing live I send the xlr out directly to FOH. The outputs are parallel so you can send the xlr to FOH and the 1/4" to your amp at the same time if you want.
It's a great unit, very versatile and worth having for any bass player. Even if it's just a back up in case your amp ever blows up.

Ditto. I was playing a gig when my amp overheated and shut down. I kept playing because I was running through the SansAmp into the PA BEFORE the amp so I could still hear myself in the monitors.
The Sansamp DI is the bassist best friend. I play mine through a few different amp into the effects return so I bypass the amps tone controls. I run sriaght to the FOH off it as well. As long as you're not to crazy boosting the tone controls most sound engineers love their tone. If you have an extra channel in the board you can also send a dry signal as well. I've played a few gigs and practices without an amp and had no problems. I always carry it in my gig bag just in case when using my other set-up which is a Tech 21 RBI into a Carvin power amp.
they r great my dad uses one at church and his crappy nameless $100 bass sounds just as good as his old warwick does. u can use them to go into the PA or as a pedal i dont think u can use them instead of a head. its not for everyone (i dont like the sounds my bass makes with it), but if u play anything other than drum n bass or new wave it sounds great
Well sort of... you can use it for your pre-amp. You still need a power amp. Or the power amp section of a head.
I used to gig with a sans amp PDDI -> SWR WM15 combo.

I'm thinking of getting one too. Heard it's great for upright bass too. I was gonna use it through PA so I don't have to bring my amp.

I've seen a few posts on the DB side from a fellow who uses a paradriver for double bass. I've used my SABDDI on my upright with.... well with less than stellar results. Sure it might help with the impedance, but so do a slew of other pedals that sound far better with the big bass than the SABDDI. I really dig the fishman pro platinum eq pedal for upright duty.
I carry a SABDDI as a backup. Here recently I am going through a phase where it is getting used pretty much every gig again (maybe 20 or so a month). The mid-scoop rep these things get is way overblown. I used mine with my fretless J last night and had a fairly mid forward tone. Trick is to set blend at no higher than 12 o'clock and then to cut a little treble (mine is at 11 o'clock) instead of boosting bass. Then dial the presence in a tad (it is boost only) to get back any lost clarity from rolling down the treble. Blammo, plenty of mids.
That just about exactly describes all the setting I use for my "go to" setting of my programmable BDDI into my Ampeg.
