Tech 21vt bass-Dbx166-GK 400 RB

My goal with Tech 21vt bass-Dbx166-GK 400 RB combination is equal volume dynamics(loudness) when using TEch21 presets. I do use 2 passive basses plugged into Tech21 vt bass. So I am asking for the the flow diagram from Tech 21 output to specifically what inputs are in the chain. (Tech 21 -> Effects send of GK400-->Effect return of GB400->DBx166 input-Dbx output ->instrument input of GB? Or do I have this a buggered up?

As I said want use both basses thru TEch21 vtbass and close as possible volume when using presets of Tech21 avoiding large changes in volume.

I'm assuming you're talking about the VTbass deluxe?

I think you need to go vtbass > gk instrument in > gk effect send > dbx in > dbx out > gk effect return.

Or

Vtbass > dbx in > gk instrument in.

Or

Vtbass > dbx in > gk effect return (this will probably remove the gk preamp from the circuit path).

What you described won't output sound unless I misread something.

Not sure about the VT and 2 basses but just take the output of the VT to the instrument in of the GK, engage the pad on the GK as necessary. put the comp in the effects loop as normal.

I did something similar but for different reasons. I put an Alembic F2B - which is 2 mono channels that can sum to a mono output into the front end of a GK 1001RB-II and used the pad. In my case I was gain balancing my dry signal and my wet signal as I had a rather involved faux synth pedal chain which I selected in or out with a simple ABY switch from ART.

or choose an external method for gain balancing 2 basses. Radial Bassbone or their Big Shot I/O. take the output of that to the VT already balanced and wired up as noted earlier.

shameless plug. I have both the aforementioned Radial devices up for sale in the GFS as my 2 basses into 1 input device is now a Source Audio EQ2.

I have been cabling up 2 or 3 basses and gain balancing them for a decade or more. A 4 and a 5 or a fretless or a Zingy J with rounds or a UBass. just depends on the gig.

Thanks for prompt reply- It is the Tech21 vt Bass Deluxe as you figured out. It will be interesting to hear how it will pan out using my Gibson EB-0 and PRSKingfisher thru the Tech21 VT Bass Deluxe. Thanks again!!♫♫

Part of the design goal of the Deluxe series pedals was to use input A for one bass and 3 presets. Preset B would be for a different bass and 3 presets associated for that. The compressor can work as a limiter to keep the volumes relative but if one bass is much louder than the other the tube emulation and Drive characteristics will not be the same when switching instruments.

Thanks for the prompt reply as far as the bass levels. Am I correct in using the DBX 166xl with channel 1(PRS Kingfisher) and 2 ( Gibson EB-0) independently to level out the volume differences.

There isn't a right or wrong, more of a what works or what doesn't. It would probably be best to program the VT Bass Deluxe to get both bass guitars close in volume. You could then use the DBX as a final step to even out the volumes.
